From time to time bartering is discussed in threads - whats up with that?

Ok i can accept a post capitalist anarcho-communist society could/should reject money, but barter surely is a ridiculous idea. What do you do when you want a new tractor and you are a lettuce farmer? Dump 100,000 lettuces in the car park of your local tractor dealer?

I agree, money as a concept leads to have and have nots. Barter is merely an extension of that principle and so doesn't fit in with the true anarchistic society I had envisioned for the utopian future!

you're right, money is simply a more efficient outgrowth of earlier forms of exchange. i think barter gets raised because people mistake the abolition with money as an end in itself, as opposed to abolishing the social relations that money implies (atomised producer-consumers who can only meet their needs via commodity exchange, since the products of their activity, for which they receive a wage take the form of commodities).

Money's reign on this planet and in fact the whole concept of ownership is coming to an end. With the dawn of new technologies such as the hydrogen fuel cell delivering free energy and the nano scale replicator delivering free matter in the form of anything conceivable by the human mind. Also automatons will replace all menial workers who are freed to do any job they wish.

No, there's meant to be a picture there - I can see it. Try clicking on http://www.veronicabelmont.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/star-trek-tng1.jpg (um, the URL kind of gives the punchline away, tho).
