On the 2nd of February, anti-fascists that took the streets of Athens to confront a fascist demo that had been called for the same day, were confronted by the fascists and the riot police working harmoniously together: The fascists would run from inside the riot police's line, attack the demonstrators and run back in again. Two anti-fascists were seriously injured; an anti-fascist demo that attempted to leave the university grounds a few hours later was brutally attacked by the police.

For a detailed description of the events see:
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/02/390563.html

NB: I just found this on indy and in my inbox - this is not called by antifa, AF or any particular group.

i don;t think this has been stressed strongly enough - the police were not simply favouring and protecting the fascists, they were standing shoulder to shoulder. Literally.

watch this:

the fascists are PART OF THE POLICE CHARGE, not nearby, part of it. You can see they are fash, they are carrying greek flags in the video. There are also reports that a left MP saw the police collecting sticks to give to the fascists.

this is mental (and completely unsurprising in some ways) - Golden Dawn a a few hundered clowns of the extreme racist right. This is not comparable to the BNP, this is more like the filth standing by the NF or some fascist footy firm.

That incident where they beat and racially abused a mugging suspect comes to mind (its on youtube, they filmed it roll eyes)

seen some photos taken at the demo from a friend on myspace, the police, as you say, shielded the fash and let them walk about with knives and other weapons. its a bad situation. sad

no but thats the thing, thats what i'm saying - it is more than just that. They didn't just shield them let them carry weapons, they can clearly be seen attacking the antifascists together, as one. Its far more than being simply supportive, they didn't even think it might be bad PR to work with the fash, they had absolutely no concern about standing shoulder to shoulder.

That is absolutely insane, I'll keep an eye out for any solidarity action here.

It's being presented very differently on paris indymedia.
article here:based on accouns from here supposedly.
I've posted a link to your videos in the comments, here's a quick trans of the article:

Greece: clashes between extreme left and extreme right in athens.

A demonstration degenerated in central atens. Militant anarchsists had come to protest an authorised march by the extreme riht golden dawn movement. The greek police had to intervene to seperate the two groups who had quickly begun fighting.
Then 400 anarchistes blockaded the main street in the capital, paralysinbg traffic, before thriowing stones and molotovs. At least four people wre injured, including two police.

The Golden dawn group, linked to european neo nazi movements, was commemmorating the event that almost led to war betwenn greece and turkey in 1996.
Calm returned to athens by the ebd of the afternoon.

THEY DID NOT PASS

Actually looking at it that could almost be written by a state asset, probably just a silly anarchist though.

a bit of light relief
apparently during a punk concert in Strasbourg some local fash decided to go to a old punk pub to throw their weight around cause there'd be no antifa around. They jumped some kid by the toilets because he said he didn't like fash, they then got a kicking from all the rest of the electro kids there smile

yes but that could be true and what i have said be true at the same time;

anarchist and Fash fight - police intervene to break them up, by fighting on the fascist side, as shown in the video.

This is no different from the mobbing up with the fash before attacking together. The point is either way, they didn't turn to their side and stop fascists throwing rocks and attacking the anarchists with sticks; they didn't stop the fascists from joining their fucking lines!

It's mental, i mean even if every cop was a fascist that day, surely they'd just have a professional objection to that? 'can i join in officer?' No you fucking can't, i'm a cop!

confused

police looked to have a lot fewer numbers when the fash were with them. They looked pretty low on manpower at some points in the videos.

if your job is to stop people rioting...

all they'd need to have done is close ranks a little. To me that looks like the were actively accomodating the fash - and it occurs to me - who might have been off duty cops?

thats not completely silly: apparently every political party commits political violence. When their conservative party marches, it riots for law and order! Political violence is very common.

I didn't make it either, but apparently 40-50 people did. A Greek flag was burned and it was reported on Greek mainstream TV news.

wow i'm amazed they got away with those banners...

edit - fuck the banners, i'm amazed tey got away with burning that flag. London embassy cops for once taken totally by surprise. 40 - 50 people is a surprisingly large amount for this sort of thing.

i especially enjoyed the bit in the video where the copper tries to get hold of the flag when it's burning, he then gets mobbed, and then his mate persuades him to leave it.
