HIstorical articles from Socialist Standard

Several historical articles from the Socialist Standard from the 1920s and 1930s not previously available online have now been added to the archives section of the SPGB site here:

Thanks for that. I for one will be dipping into these with some interest.

As I was trying to access some articles on the SPGB website yesterday, and couldn't, any chance you could get your webteam/person to check out why not? Using the search function for articles referring to 'state capitalism' I kept getting 'page not found' errors, even when the search turned up results (ie, it would list the results, then when I clicked on an interesting article I'd get a 'page not found' error). I have this idea that the SPGB were claiming the Fabians were state capitalist around 1908, and I was trying to check it out. Thanks.

I think you may be thinking of this article about the Fabians which does say that they stand for the rule of a bureaucracy and state capitalism.

There was another article entitled "Evolution & State Capitalism" in the April 1910 issue but this is not (yet) on line.

I've passed the technical problem on to our webmaster.

Hi I think you must of been using the search form on the worldsocialism.org site rather than the worldsocialism.org/spgb site. The WSM site needs to be upgraded following the recent update of the SPGB site. Sorry about that.

Search on the spgb site works fine:

I've fixed the search on www.worldsocialism.org

Thanks Darren, that's awesome.

IIf you reckon I was searching through WSM rather than WSM/SPGB, you may be right. I think the header was blue which might suggest it was the WSM search; but the urls came up with /SPGB, I'm sure.

Thanks also to you Alb, thata looks really interesting and exactly the kind of thing I was after. I wasn't searching in particular for an article I'd read, but was aware that the SPGB had criticised the Fabians for being state-capitalist before WWI; and checking out the WSM site, I came across several search results that might relate to that. But they didn't seem to exist. I'm now trying to find the one that I was looking for yesterday - should have copied the info so I could find it again, but never mind...

Just to let you know that this article is now on line at
http://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/socialist-standard/1910s/1910/no-68-april-1910/evolution-and-state-capitalism
Also others including one from 1925 on the confused idea of a "Scottish Workers Republic" which has come up in the news again.
