Just as the world economic crisis is no longer something that can be hidden by debt-fuelled ‘prosperity’, so the class struggle can no longer be dismissed as a ‘thing of the past’. In the past couple of years, faced with the erosion of living standards that results from the crisis, we have seen increasingly widespread, massive and simultaneous workers’ struggle all across the world – from the movement against the CPE in France to the massive revolts by textile workers in Bangladesh and Egypt, from the courageous demonstrations of construction workers in Dubai to the defiant expressions of solidarity on the picket lines of oil tanker drivers in Britain. Some of these strike movements have been linked to hunger revolts as the spiralling price of food makes daily survival increasingly difficult.

In this forum we will be discussing the dynamic of these movements, examining a number of the key issues they pose: what forms of organisation do workers need to control and spread their struggles; what kinds of demands best serve the struggle; what can be done when the struggle dies down; what is the connection between strikes and hunger revolts; how can workers draw out the political perspectives raised implicitly and sometimes explicitly by their resistance against the effects of the capitalist crisis?

The ICC will begin with a short presentation, but the main part of the meeting will be devoted to open discussion. Please come with your questions, comments and criticisms.

On urban75, at least there's been a bit of a set-to with Attica over this ad.....

What's going on here?

Why did my previous post following the Tacks bollocks get edited out? Why is Joseph's bollocks kept in?

Are there are any comments about the idea of a worldwide revivial of class struggle? I seem to recall that this was a topic that Catch found more interesting than most.
