It looks like we'll be hosting a discussion with Jeff Monson, anarchist MMA fighter, on Saturday 28th March in the evening, just giving people a heads-up in advance if they're interested.
Details yet to be confirmed but he's keen so it should happen and I'll stick full details and poster up here when it's set.

I'll be telling anarchists, and people at MMA/grappling clubs i.e. the people who are likely to give a fuck - it doesn't need a press release.

It's not about the ghetto, it's about a knowledge of these areas.
Given that the media aren't even covering the Cage Wars event he's fighting at in the biggest venue in Belfast, I'm just more concerned at actually getting word on the ground to people who are likely to come. No objection to contacting 'the media', just more pressing areas to target advertising at, plus we don't even know what time it's at.

Eh? All you have to do is knock two hundred words together and send it off to the local papers. They'd blatantly print it if you sent them a photo or two aswell. You might get no takers, but its hardly a lot of effort.
Are you planning on advertising this amongst the fans coming to see the cage fights, woudl there be any way to do so?

Na unfortunately the talk is likely to be the day before, and we still don't klnow all the details etc so hands are tied to a degree. We're limited by what the promoter is doing and Monson's own arrangements (travel, weigh-ins, press conference for fight blah blah)

This is happening on Saturday 28th March at 2.00pm at the Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre, Donegall St, beside John Hewitt pub, which is here
Folk will need to be quiet coming in and out as there will be a class on next door. Just Books will have a stall at this event.
I'll upload the poster when I get to a computer that doesn't ban photobucket, stupid library.

Only just got this confirmed yesterday from the promoter. he has seminar commitments, weigh in, press-conference on the same day so unfortunately we've been at the mercy of whatever time could be spared, but it's happening

Nope he survived. Was an interesting talk, lots of stuff about the wage-structure of UFC etc and he comes across as genuinely giving a shit about his politics.

Scuffles broke out in a few areas around belfast between polish and NI fans before/after the match last night. First thought was "would monson go down and put order on them with a photographer if we offer him $5000?"
We could give him a firehose and all.

lol I saw that aswell. Do you know if it was anything to do with the fact the polish are mostly catholic? and the northern irish football fans are mostly protestant? also the fact the polish goalie boruc plays for celtic, just curious.

There was some graffiti saying boruc rip, but more importantly it was two groups of pissed up thugs who love fighting.

Yeah we walked passed the Boruc death-threat graffiti the other day, like 20ft from 'kick racism out of sport' posters 
In the stadium, apparently some Poles held up republican flags, but the main fights, which shut down a Wetherspoons for one, were a few hrs before the match kicked off, and apparently involved mostly ticketless Polish fans.

Oh, and Monson won his fight fairly easily in middle of 2nd round with his trademark north-south choke.
He had tougher fight than most thought, and the Lithuanian guy had him on the backfoot a little bit in first round with an armbar attempt, but generally Monson never looked in real danger.
