The eirigi flag guy looks like he could give monson a run for his money. =)

Thats good monson won.

Out of interest what do the anarchists think of national liberation groups in Ireland?

Do they think sein feinn have been co-opted by capitalism? What do you guys think of the good friday agreement?

comrades please remember if you have ever been to a football match you use anything to annoy and wind up the opposite side.

I know plenty of people like myself smile who can be at times very bigoted at football matches, and leave it there after 90 mins.

I hated the fact that northern Ireland won on saturday. It was sickening listening to them commentators saying how ni fans were so great and how many awards for allegedly good behaviour they have won over the years,

Bobby, is that you on the wind up again?

Leaving your politics outside anywhere, for 90 minutes or less, just isn't on.

Eirigi are just the provos ten years ago, contos are pretty conservative group with an average age of over 50 - a hangover from the old old IRA, the reals literally only care about uniting Ireland and are fucking mental and if by "national liberation groups" you mean the INLA, they are too busy chopping people up in criminal gangland wars.

Any more questions?

Bobby and weeler, cheers for your reasoned responses to serious question roll eyes

Sickdog, in terms of what anarchists in Ireland think, I'd say that most are internationalists and I'd probably say (as a non-Irish anarchist) that I'm probably closest to the Organise! group in terms of seeing 'national liberation' groups as offering absolutely nothing to the working class beyond dividing them on national lines and lining them up behind their respective ruling classes.

As such, to talk of Sinn Fein as being co-opted by capitalism is a red herring, assuming that groups seeking state power for the good of 'a nation' can be anything but pro-capitalist. Even while using socialist rhetoric, their aims can still only go as far as instituting a planned, social democratic capitalist economy (and even then only for the function of bringing the working class under its control) - certainly not the directly democratic society which anarchists would envisage as socialism.

Fuck up ed. Asking what people think of the "national liberation movements" in a thread about Jeff Monson is pretty retarded. I gave him a straightforward run down on the groups he was sewing illusions in from the position of having years of experience of them. Its not our job to take someone by the hand every time they mistake a goomba with a balaclava and armalite for a revolutionary.

Firstly, I wouldn't call it retarded. A tangent, but not retarded. Some Irish anarchists were talking about something they put on and someone asked them about Irish history. Sure, he could have started a new thread but that's not retarded.

Secondly, who's "sewing illusions" in any groups? What was said was

Seems like asking a question to me. No one's arguing for a united Ireland..

Finally, I don't see why you think reasonably putting forward your ideas is taking "someone by the hand every time they mistake a goomba with a balaclava and armalite for a revolutionary". I think most of us held some nationalist ideas at some point or another (I certainly used to support the IRA/Sinn Fein in my youth), someone pointing out the internationalist opposition - to someone you don't know - in an amiable way would hardly constitute some outlandish radical approach.

weeler stop being a dick.

Ed, the wsm also believes that Irish nationalism offers nothing to the working-class which is clearly stated in our position paper.
