Organising for June 30th // Marchmont Centre London WC1 // 7pm Monday 23rd May

Please forward far and wide, join the Facebook event group and publicise!

Organising for June 30th // Open Assembly // 7pm Monday May 23rd // Marchmont Community Centre WC1

30th June 2011 may well turn out to be the most important step forward in a mass fight against public sector cuts. Hundreds of thousands of workers could be involved in strike action, from as many as four or five different unions including NUT, PCS, UCU and ATL.

Often strike action can be ignored by those in power but also the vast majority of workers not in unions or directly effected by the issues. Therefore we, rank & file union members, students, precarious workers & unemployed are calling for a mass show of solidarity for those taking strike action and to generalise the strike on June 30th.

From early morning pickets, direct actions, occupations & demonstrations - whatever your into - lets all do it on June 30th and amplify the resistance to austerity. This call to action is going out to activist direct action groups, local anti cuts groups, radical political groups, radical unions and student university occupations.

Come to the co-ordination meeting - bring ideas, friends, creativity.

We have plenty of time and resources to organise for this in a serious way, please tell me people on here aren't going to reject this idea as too ambitious. I'm only one person and I can get in contact with four different anti-cuts groups in my area alone. But they'll only support it if I can show that others are supporting the idea, otherwise I'm just the nutcase at the meeting.

hundreds of thousands marched on the 26th if we get near that number to take part on the 30th it would be one of the most significant actions in the past decade.Tell me I'm not alone on this.

(If you found this comment embaressingly naive and optimistic then sorry)

Fair enough, dont get me wrong I wasn't having a pop at libcom posters. Just would like to see a fair bit of unity on this idea from people who are so involved in the anti-cuts struggle.

Hope to have definite news of Tyne/Wear organising assembly soon. Minutes/action plans, (so far as prudence dictates), from today's meeting will be very helpful to those of us outside London.

Comrades who haven't already seen it might find this FB page encouraging:

I would really like to go to this but unfortunately can't due to personal commitments. Please pass on my apologies to the meeting. On June 30, I'm speaking to colleagues to see if people would be prepared to not cross picket lines on the day, because if we get enough teachers have said they would picket my building (a handful of people in my building or in the teachers pension scheme through historical accident).

Pat on the back to the meeting facilitator, tough job. All in all a great meet I thought, well done all those who organised it. I'm sure the next one will be bigger and better smile

It was hot as Hades in there, though.

It went perfect IMO. We counted 98 people. The next venue will be bigger but we want to pull out all the stops to make it twice as big and perhaps more focussed on practical organising/mapping of pickets.

I'll put the minutes up later.

Cheers raw, it would be great if those of us who couldn't make it could see what was discussed and what came out of it
