*****************************************************************************

VICTORIA's 3rd ANNUAL ANARCHIST BOOKFAIR
Saturday and Sunday, September 13th (11am-7pm) & 14th (11am-5pm)
At the Downtown Community Activity Centre of the Victoria Cool Aid Society
755 Pandora St., Victoria, BC

We are glad to announce the third year of the only Anarchist Bookfair on the
Canadian west coast. The Bookfair is for anarchists and non-anarchists, with
participants from all over North America and beyond. We seek to introduce
anarchism to the public, to further elaborate upon current and historical
anarchist ideals and to foster dialogue between various anarchist
tendencies. Participants from different anarchist traditions, visions, and
practices are welcome. The events include book and information tables,
workshops, readings, films, presentations, and much more. A Festival of
Anarchy will take place during the week before the Bookfair, including a DIY
Fair on September 12th, 2008.

Proposal callouts for workshops, presentations, street art exhibits, films,
Festival of Anarchy events and tables are included below. We look forward to
your suggestions and contributions!

* 2. How to request a table *
**********************************

The heart of the Bookfair is the main room including booksellers,
distributors, independent presses and activist oriented groups from all over
BC, North America, and abroad. Please make sure to read our statements of
principles before contacting us to request a table. If you haven't tabled at
the Bookfair before, please include a short description of your group and
the material you intend to distribute at the Bookfair.

--> Please send table requests to:
tables@victoriaanarchistbookfair.ca

Table space is limited, with some additional wall space for lightweight
displays. (We will provide stick-pins to hang them.) Please carefully
consider your needs before requesting a table.
½ Table = 4 ft X 2.5 ft
Full Table = 8 ft X 2.5 ft

--> For more information about table space and vendors, please consult our
website:
www.victoriaanarchistbookfair.ca

NOTE: The deadline to request a table is July 1st 2008. (We cannot
guarantee table space, inclusion on the poster, or in our program-zine for
late submissions.)

*****************************************************************
* 3. Workshops, presentations…want to participate? *
*****************************************************************

The Bookfair organizing collective is currently seeking workshop and
presentation proposals. We are looking for workshops relating to anarchism
and anti-authoritarian, indigenous or anarchist-supported struggles,
alternative economic strategies and other anarchist related topics including
classical anarchism, syndicalism, labour, feminism, anti-racism,
anti-colonialism, resistance, solidarity, media, communications, animal
rights, gender issues, health, poverty, art, non-violence, ecology, natural
and sustainable building, cultural diversity, urban and self-reliant
agriculture, co-operatives and the social economy, transportation
alternatives, music distribution, bookbinding & self publishing, bookstores,
dumpster diving and foraging, post-industrial society, and local exchange
trading systems. The workshops and presentations could be aimed at people
who are curious about, or new to, anarchist ideas, or address an
anarchist-themed topic in some depth intended for people who are already
familiar with anarchism, or who might identify as anarchists.

--> Please send proposals to:
workshops@victoriaanarchistbookfair.ca

Workshop space during the bookfair is limited. Presenters are encouraged to
consider participation in the D.I.Y fair on Friday, September 12th, or
anytime during the week-long Festival of Anarchy if workshop times during
the Bookfair are full.

--> For more information about proposing workshops and presentations,
including basic guidelines, please consult our website:
www.victoriaanarchistbookfair.ca

NOTE: The deadline for all workshop and presentation proposals is July 1st
2008. (We cannot guarantee a timeslot during the Bookfair weekend, September
13th and 14th, or inclusion in our program-zine for late submissions.)

**************************************************
* 4. Callout, Festival of Anarchy Events *
**************************************************

In addition to the Bookfair, a "Festival of Anarchy" will take place during
the preceding week, with diverse anarchist-themed events occurring at
different venues in Victoria. The only limit is your imagination. You can
propose any number or types of events, including street art, posters, chalk
arts, performance art, film-screenings, pranks, and social/political
workshops. Past workshops included self-defence, dumpstering 101, various
arts & crafts, stencil graffiti, body modifications, various bike stuff,
creating gender bending devices, and/or DIY sex toys.

**Note: The D.I.Y. Fair will be held all day Friday, September 12th: If you
can make it, it's D.I.Y., and if you can teach others to make it, that's
what we're looking for!

***Important: Please have a venue in mind to include in your proposal for
events that are not intended to be part of the D.I.Y. Fair.

--> Please send Festival of Anarchy including D.I.Y. Fair proposals to:
festival@victoriaanarchistbookfair.ca

--> For more information about proposing Festival of Anarchy events,
including basic guidelines, please consult our website:
www.victoriaanarchistbookfair.ca

NOTE: To ensure your Festival of Anarchy event will be included in the
bookfair program-zine, please submit your proposal by July 1st 2008.
