Yank bun fight
What's a "bun fight?"
It's when some argument ceases to be about ideas and is just about flinging insults or restating positions at each other, ie when it ceases to be a discussion.

Oh good. I thought it was some sort of homophobic crap.
Bun-fight, bunfight, bun fight:
If it sounds to you like a Victorian children’s nursery at teatime, that surely must be the original allusion behind it. Imagine children having tea, inevitably squabbling over the buns, teacakes, muffins and — this being a British expression — crumpets. Two similar expressions are known from the middle of the nineteenth century: crumpet-scramble and muffin-worry; these haven’t survived.
Interestingly, some of the early uses of bun-fight (these days, also often bunfight) borrowed the idea of afternoon tea in the nursery but left out the fighting: it could refer to the most decorous of engagements, such as those one was invited to by elderly aunts of the Wodehousian persuasion, at which squabbling over food was inconceivable. Then, as now, a bun-fight could more generally be any occasion at which food was served, it often being a sarcastic term describing rather formal ones for which guests had to dress up. In 1994, a newspaper report told of a British MP who turned up improperly dressed (in a lounge suit) at an engagement that was described as the “annual bunfight of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, at which black tie and decorations are de rigueur”.
Another sense of bun-fight, also still with us, borrowed the fight sense but left out the food. Often this refers to a heated altercation, but one that the describing observer feels is of no importance, rather like the nursery squabble that started the expression off.
Great post!
i have always liked that saying - don't like it when the food aspect is left out of the equation..
Another wasted thread. Started off good, intersting and went down hill. This is why there's no more nefac-friends list in the US.

I'm going to use the old version of crumpet-scramble.
If you've never been to vegas you'll have to trust me when I tell you how funny it'll be for me to start saying "crumpet-scramble" in actual conversation.

Fucking crybaby. Remember when people from Jersey were tough?
Duke, if you want to blather at the mouth, just do it as PM's to people.

I agree entirely. This is exactly what happened to the NEFAC friends list and its really disappointing seeing this board declining the same way.

Mathias is a Hare Krishna? And a trade unionist? And an anarchist? Bizarre.
This is more of a muffin-worry than a bun-fight.

Having grown up in Boston I do not recognize the existence of your so-called "New York" in any way, shape or form.
ah, libcom falls prey to the anarcho-labor no it alls of Duke, Mathias, and Chuck. not to dismiss their experiences, because there is much to learn, but these guys seem intenet on just making a joke out of @ist forums. they think their participation challenges and provokes, but in honesty it just becomes a bore. their answers are "look im in a million strong union, what does your little 10 person anarchist group have?". perhaps their insight could be usefull but they are not interessted in trying to build revolutionary anarchist organizations or movements or help devise strategy. a discussion that may start some anarchists talking about their labor organizing and approaches gets turned into a joke. come on guys, why even waste peoples time here, it's not like yall are actually interessted in revolutionary libertarian politics anymore, if you ever really were...

Who are you?
As a life long jersey boy (Paterson NJ) my experience with NY'ers has been that it is usually transplants who live outside NYC, move there and then try fitting in by attempting to take on the accent (like writing new yawka) and talking shit about jersey as if this makes their kansas transplanted ass a real new yorker.
New York has become nothing but a playground for the bourgoise and their offspring.

As opposed to when you were young and Chris Day was chief anarcho-rev?
