Anarchist themed music compilations... ideas...

One of the things that got discussed at the AYN gathering was making and selling some more music compilations similar to the existing AYN/enrager.net hip hop compilation "Louder Than A Bomb"...

I can think of a few dub/reggae tracks that would make at least the beginnings of a nice anarchist-themed compilation, and also quite a few insurrectionary hip hop tracks that were not already included on the first hip hop compilation... someone else (i think either october_lost or 3rdseason?) suggested they would be able to put together a Hardcore compilation (by which i *think* they meant hardcore as in punk, not hardcore as in cheesy speed rave)...

Other suggestions included drum'n'bass and folk (although i *think* the latter was intended, er, ironically...)

Just wondering who else thinks this would be a good idea and what suggestions people would have for compilation themes or particular tracks that any @-themed compilation from a particular genre would be essential to include...

(debate over which is the "most anarchist" type of music deserves another thread, which someone can start if there is demand for it... wink )

fuck that shit we should be making pirated copies of all the main chart acts and sell them for 3 quid like the paramilitaries do over here. get the money raking in expand the production (duplicators), move into drugs and racketeering and then start shooting each other over the profits.

well thats what the INLA,LVF, UDA and UVF do.

the IRA do it but they make most of their money from rich conservative Irish americans, Noraid oh aye and Sinn Fein the good socialists they are took money from coca cola.

seriously this anarchists malarky is wasted on u commie lil fucks there's good money to be make out of the ole circled a and all ye's can come up with is a comp tape with shitty drum n bass and no doubt some shite punk like the blaggers, start with Britney and Christina move onto E's and Horse and then prostitution. (oh yeah just remembered the goog ole boys of the INLA are involved in the ole sex trade, perhaps thats why class war have a link to them? to be honest i couldn't see anyother reason why u'd want to have anything to do within!)

Music! Lets see! Some neat bands and songs...well im mostly into the whole 70s/80s punk/Ska scene so id suggest Dead Kennedys - Police Truck & Forestfire! Their my fave! Police Trucks about police brutality and Forest Fires about eating berries and getting high, then setting Californias forests on fire and watching all the rich people burning to death in there big houses...and laughing at them! A cheery song smile. Ummm, The Stranglers - No Heros (I think thats what its called?), Deff some of The Clash! I Fought The Law, Know Your Rights and London Calling. Stiff Little Fingers - Alternative Ulster, Suspect Device, No more Flags. The Damned - Democracy and Neverland! The Specials - Message To You, Rudy. Ghost Town. The Piranhas - Tom Hark. DOA with Jello Biafra - I Wish I was in El Salvador & Power is Boring. Hmmm, theirs also some good other music! Like Rolling Stones and stuff! Their all good! Uuuuh, well, theirs some suggestions! You should check em out! Whats this all in aid of anyway?

there has got to be more than enought decent material out there for at least a double album of songs abotu the police

anything by MDC ("hey cop, if i had a face like yours" for starters

dead kennedys - poolice truck

smiley culture 0 police officer

krs-one - sound of da police

conflict - the arrest

the maggie thatchers dead compilation has kinda been done (there is a thread about it somewhere on urban75)

I reckon there has to be enough material out there for a compilation of songs abotu landlords, but i cant think of owt atm.

er, there could be a vegan themed one- no bryan adams!!!! but moby has to be on there (with one of his decent - ie early - tunes) and cows with guns as well.....

er, songs abotu george bush as well, i have a couple i will have to dig out, one is a folky number by david rovics, think its called "george bush is a moron" or maybe just "moron".....

er, anyway, i am waffling (just drunk two pints in VERY close succession) so am vaguely pissed / suitably refreshed / whatever...hmmmmm - right, i'll go away now.....

Landlord song - Dead Kennedys - Lets Lynch The Landlord (I LOVE Dead Kennedys tongue)

Vegan songs - Goldfinger - Free Me (VERY powerful, specially with the video!) or F.T.N. (Fuck Ted Nugent) basically slags off Ted Nugent and J-Lo!

G. Bush song - NOFX - Idiot Son of an Asshole or The Idiots Are Taking Over!

Im proud of my music head grin! I know loadsa rap stuff or whatever...just ask! smile

I said I would do a hardcore compilation but the problem is not actually coming up with a good compilation Im thinking its possible to do several, maybe hardcore/old skool punk/ and possibly even a ska based album. But I thought it would just spoil the theme if we just put one with a mixture of everything.

Hardcore

Assert/Boysetsfire/Morning Again/Earth Crisis/Kafka/Strike Anywhere/Shai Hulud/Sick Of It All/Sin Dios/Downset/

- Possibly even Death Metal stuff like, Napalm Death/Brutal Truth/Malefaction

...if anyone else can help that would be great

Punkie

Crass/Conflict/Aus Rotten/Anti-Flag/Blaggers ITA/The Oppressed/The Clash/Dead Kennedys/NOFX/Stiff Little Fingers/Exploited/4skins/Black Flag/Angelic Upstarts

....Again HELP!

Ska-ish

Goldfinger/Leftover Crack/The Specials/Choking Victim/MU330

... I can talk to 'thismachinebleeds' he will know a few more on this score,

You sad bastards go and buy some Clash records immediately. I mean seriously, 'the idiot son of an asshole' by NOFX is hardly infused with a huge amount of political and social wit, now is it?

Yes!!! eek black bloc Well maybe not the racketeering and shooting each other stuff but I do reckon it'd be awesome to just pirate CDs and build up a big fund for getting people to demos and making prop and stuff.

Its not gonna happen tho.

I'll do a drum and bass CD if people want..

oh, vegan songs: good clean fun - vegan revolution draft dodger, the propagumbis - meat free anthem are both pretty mint.

police songs: black flag - police story, leftover crack - so you wanna be a cop

How many times have the AYN tried to make a punk comp. CD? We just need Jack to come along now and tell us none of us are punk at all, and then an arguement about wether international noise conspiracy are punk or not.

There are 2 Class War Fuck the Police Cds - with a mixture of mostly punk and hip-hop anti- police stuff.

Neither has sold more than 30 copies, so I can't see why the AYN woould want to do this, unless you have some new angle.........

Any more references to punk, punk tracks, punk artists or punk CDs will be removed from the thread.

Punk is dead, kids, it's just not pleasant trying to get its stinky corpse to dance around and come back to life. Kinda like that bit at the funeral in Scary Movie 3.

Erm does this mean we should call it quits, what do other people think? Possibly our youth and good lucks could mean we able to flog a few more than 30, how well did the hip-hop CD's go?

And yes International Noise Conspiracy are a punk band.....

alright, here's the beginnings of a track listing for a reggae CD:

Steel Pulse - Handsworth Revolution

Lion Youth - Rat A Cut Bottle

Aswad - I A Rebel Soul

Horace Andy - Government Land

The Wailers - Revolution

Max Romeo - Freedom*

Half Pint - Freedom Fighters

Cornell Campbell - Press Along Natty

The Abyssinians - Declaration of Rights

Delroy Washington - Freedom Fighters

Israel Vibration - Crisis (unless people don't want a band with Israel in the name)

The Meditations - No Peace

*may not be correct title as downloaded without a title...

and if modern dancehall and digi-dub should be included as well as classic roots:

Anthony B - Police

Sizzla - Hard Ground and/or Babylon Cowboy

Spectacular - Corrupt System

Dub Syndicate - Fight The Power

Bush Chemists - Backs Against The Wall

maybe either the live version of "Get Up Stand Up" or Zion Train's remix of "Babylon's Burning" by The Ruts as a bonus track, or are they too obvious?

been wanting to put some of the really heavy, dread, apocalyptic tunes by Lee Scratch Perry or Yabby You, with all that chanting of judgement on Babylon, but they're all a bit religious or just plain obscure to fit in a compilation of purely revolutionary lyrics... however Horace Andy's "Government Land" HAS to be THE anarchist's/squatter's anthem...

any other ideas for inclusion?

what would i put in a lefty cd...

ok its not all anarchist but a lot of anarchist music is a bit shit

Tom Robinson-Up against the wall

Sin dios-1936:un pueblo en armas

David rovics-Noone is illegal

T(i)NC-I wanna know about you

The weakerthans-My favourite chords

Chumbawamba- enough is enough

ATR's cover of- If the kids are united

Pretenders-Ohio

faithless-mass destruction

Grandmaster flash-the message

The clash-train in vain

utah phillips-solidarirty forever

Ani difranco-blood in the boardroom

Rifu-the oil the coal and the profit

The strike-shots heard round the world

The weakerthans-confessions of a futon revolutionist

Billy bragg-there is power in a union

and if you were getting hi tech and have silly amounts of money to blow

Bruce cockburn-call it democracy (video)

T(I)NC-Smash it up (video)

That'd be the sort of thing i'd give out at peace demos and the like anywaym, with some audio stuff on the end, maybe howard zinn because its the most accessable and most practical. Although really i'd try and find some spoken word stuff and criticism more relevant to the UK, although i can't think of anything available on audio mp3 off the top of my head.
