Cable Street
Can someone recommend a good book about the anti-fascist shenanigans in Cable Street 1936? Or anything about antifascism in the UK in that era? Ta.
from a few years later, ie 1945 to 1950 era is "the 43 group" by morris beckman, i only mention it coz its fucking amazing.
yea I recomend the 43 Group too. Everyone should read it.
There is some good stuff about Cable Street in Joe Jacobs' "Out of the Ghetto" also, especially if you're interested in the CP's role in it (the author was a member but ended up leaving because of his problems with their lack of priority towards anti-fascism amongst other things).
Cable St - come on, you can't be that revisionist surely.? Pls stop and attack the enemy.
Rae Hill and lots of others also denounced the CP after infiltrating and diverting it.

Is that directed at me?

Funnily enough i was in a bookshop (East Side Books, just round the corner from Shoreditch station)) in Brick Lane today and it had a great 'Local History' section, and i picked up a pamphlet by the Cable Street Group called 'The Battle Of Cable Street' and its a great read!
I was thinking Freedom should have a section on the East End with local history / organisation type stuff... Another cool pamphlet in East Side Books was called something like from 'Auschwitz to the East End' and it was a collection of articles from people in the East End who were members of certain communities who had come under attack by fascists since the begining of the 20th century
