Mine is Fear Of The Dark performed at Donnington mostly because the video increases its awesomeness to the maxxx.

Mine is The Trooper, mostly because I like to play along on bass and pretend I'm Steve Harris embarrassed

Heavy metal is for nerdy middle class teenage boys who cannot get a girlfriend (mainly because they don't deserve one)

I have always thought that in a fascist society the one type of music that would never be banned is Heavy Metal....

The only good bit of any iron Maiden record is the end....

Hi

"Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter"

Bruce is cool. He’s a pilot, so, is he a worker? You’d recruit him at the drop of a hat, wouldn’t you? Me too.

Love

yeah, fear of the dark is pretty awesome. i quite like rime of the ancient mariner, although i think they were cowards to use an abridged version rather than setting the entire poem to music, but i suppose over thirteen minutes is already pushing it for a metal song... run to the hills is another good one, and seventh son of a seventh son, because it always makes me think of terry pratchett books.

and paul clearly doesn't know the history of heavy metal, at the beginning of the eighties it was the americans who were all middle class with their ridiculous stadium hair metal, iron maiden were the working class band sticking to the roots. also, in the mid-eighties, when most other metal acts started copying pop lyricwise, and generally being shite, maiden were singing about far more interesting stuff like egyptian mythology and fighting the luftwaffe.

Doesn't anyone like "Tattooed Millionaire"?

Bruce Dickinson on his own can't write a song to save his life. His solo stuff is comically poor.

'Run to the hills' does it for me.

Though I've got a soft spot for 'Iron Maiden' as well - how can you go wrong with lyrics like this: "Won't you come into my room, I wanna show you all my wares. I just want to see your blood, I just want to stand and stare. See the blood begin to flow as it falls upon the floor.

Iron Maiden can't be fought, Iron Maiden can't be sought" ?

And way before Slayer started writing pointless songs about blood and gore too.

Yeah, "Run To The Hills" is ace, although "Paschendale" is much more profound:

"The bodies of ours and our foes

The sea of death it overflows

In no man's land god only knows

Into jaws of death we go

Crucified as if on a cross

Allied troops they mourn their loss

German war propaganda machine

Such before has never been seen"

Wilfred Owen he ain't! "Crucified as if on a cross" indeed. roll eyes

Run to the hills for sure.

On another note, fellow libcom-er meanoldman and I ran their private bar at the Reading festival, and were very amused by them. Then we came into possession of their specially-produced personal compilation CDs. Ace.

Beat me to it pingtiao. Might be musically a bit rubbish but for balding middle age men their groupies weren't half bad.

I gave mine to a Maiden obsessed work mate. He was very happy.

And it's all about Run to the Hills. Especially when performed by a drunk guy on a picnic table.

Y'know I'd love for ya to be right Paul but back when there were quite a lot of nerdy middle class teenage (and older and uglier) heavy metallers roaming about it always used to hack me off that the greasy spotty ugly fuckers actually often had pretty good lookin girlfriends (in a crap superficial heavy metal chick sorta way).

I reckon yer right though about the fash not banning heavy metal.

Y'know eddie has featured in a number of loyalist murals over the years. Quite an icon in those quarters (mainly down to Trooper?).

Hmmm.

Iron Maiden are fucking awful. It's Dickinson's voice, some weakass quasi-falsetto bollocks.

Run To The Hills, Rime of the Ancient Mariner and 7th Son in that order.
Also, Tattooed Millionaire is brilliant.

Heard them do an acoustic set about 7/8 years ago. It was fucking brilliant. At the end (finishing with Run to the Hills) you could clearly hear them beginning to smash their instruments (in disgust at themselves) before they were cut off by the presenters.

While most of the rest of us have accepted our fates, its amazing that you still think you will avoid the iron heel of communist justice. Even if you somehow escape the initial purges, your predicatble refusal to wear the rapidly introduced communsit unform will quickly single you out for liquidation.
