Should we overhaul the music section?

Thought it would help to expand the music (bands/labels/distors) directory with links and info, why?

(1) this way we could be better placed to organise potential gigs with local contacts, (2) we are better placed to review albums etc in our press, (3) to enable those putting out CDs to have a more viable list to draw from, (4) to listen to good music of course!

I could potentially list 30+ bands with a anarchist/left/progressive slant. What do others think?, and what of the enrager hosts?

yes please!

ideally we wanted bands by genre, with a link to a page on our site with a little description, a bit about their politics, then maybe 1 or 2 external links

If you could do that with some bands that'd be ace!

I have just been informed that music can now join Focualt alongside sucking Waynes dick!

music is soo bourgeois, it is the icing of the cake in our bid to control and rape nature. By seeking to control soundwaves we are only further alienating ourselves from the primitive.

Instead of listening to the soundtrack of the megadeath machine we should revel in the beauty of a cows fart or a horses orgasm!

I must repeat however that birds* singing are just a bunch of collaborationist scum and their sonic reign of terror from above must be resisted by all those who wish to be free.

*crows and seagulls are however good comrades in the struggle to liberate soundwaves and their beautifully wild squacks are a shining example of how free we can be.

Parrots are the ultimate collaborationists with the authors of the megaDeathMachine and will be shown no mercy.

**Indie/Rock

Desaparecidos

Indie/rock outfit named in Spanish after the 'disappeared' victims of Latin Americas right wing juntas, the band is fronted by Bright Eyes singer/songwriter Conor Oberst. Oberst screams out observational commentary about urban development, the sacrifice of human value for the dollar bill, and the new American Dream, in the same vein as At The Drive In, The Pixies and Weezer. Checkout Read Music / Speak Spanish album.

Eclectic long lasting post-punk outfit, idealistic and thought provoking - in a similar vein as Gang Of Four.

le tigre are sooooooooo much better than punk. ok, they define themselves as something like feminist elctro-disco punk, but i reckon that they'd fit better under indie/rock. bikini kill could go under punk though. and sleater-kinney.

also under hip hop you should have ntm, paris, nas, public enemy and most importantly of all, immortal technique. and a huge fuck load of others that someone who's more seriously into hip hop.

Not by choice, I hasten to add, but because they're supporting Sunn o))), purveyors of sonic doom in a mad satanic druid stylee. I saw whitehouse once already, and they were mildly amusing for about 30 seconds and then just really fucking irritating for the remainder of their set.

Sunn o))) i seen those bunch of shit hawks on friday night! they were possibly the bigggest pile of shite ive ever been forced to listen to! waht pretenious boring bollox! imagine the intro to spinal taps stone henge set with out the humour or even music!

apparently they play at frequencies that can make u vomit and shit urself, well all i got was a fucking headache and ive a fucking sensitive stomach and i ve never as much felt like burping!!

even the sad bearded metallers looked bored and as for most of the girls at the gig they looked ready to stab their loser geek boyfriends in the eye for putting them thru such boredom!

Clearly you have no taste. I saw them on sunday and they fucking rocked, albeit very slowly. They're almost as cool as earth.

The fact that they've got whitehouse supporting does raise some doubts about their politics though, and hence whether I should be supporting them by buying rather than downloading their music.

Never heard Whitehouse (me = too old). Always had a shamefaced soft-spot for Laibach -- particularly their cover of 'One Vision.'

There's actually quite a lot more to it than just being 'knowing' & 'ironic.'

Laibach's politics are quite clearly left-wing if not actually anarchist. Much more clearly in their later albums (Kapital onwards) than in the early ones.

There's a good analysis of what Laibach do here: http://www.ce-review.org/00/31/monroe31.html

Laibach would disagree. For them art is always political.

"all art is subject to political manipulation, except for that which speaks the language of the same manipulation"

yeah dabbling in a bit of right wing imagery is grand, eg the manics on the holy bible.

oh and my friend has a fetish for nazi uniforms yet is a left leaning lesbian.

is it wrong that the idea of being dominated by a woman wearing leather boots and a ss cap isn't exactly repulsive to me? embarrassed

Ive heard of jewish guys who wanna be dominated by women in SS uniforms. eek eek

I think if you appropriate nazi imagery you should use it to make some sort of point. Not cos it looks cool or you just wanna shock (i.e sex pistols)

but it can't be denied that the SS uniforms looked cool as fuck in a menacing sort of way, im not suggesting walking around the streets in it just that certain parts of the aesthetic are sharp as fuck, just like the Soivet imagery!
