FireFox Adblocker
I just discoevered this today, along with the standard Adblocker in FireFox (which rules) you can download this tiny extension which adds to the adblocking facility to get rid of Flash Ads etc.
Just thought i'd let anyone know who didnt know about it
Oh and if you are still using IE where you have the choice to use FireFox - you are a dick.
Why the fuck would anyone use shitty non Microsoft software when there's a perfectly adequite MS equivalent?
you serious?
its practical jack, Firefox is a better program cause it doesn't get bugged to shit with spyware like XP despite me using various programs to get rid of it and i'm not stupid with sorting out computers but it drove me fucking mad using IE with XP. Firefox is better. its cleaner. maybe only because less people target it with crap. but that'll do for now.
Jack come off it, there's no way anyone can defend IE, its a piece of crap. Through and through.
And fire fox has a better name
I've used IE on my computer at home for 2 1/2 years (with XP). Never reinstalled windows. I spend WAY too much time on the 'net. It's not got buggered up yet.
What will you wacky techno-hippies think of next?
Jack come off it, there's no way anyone can defend IE, its a piece of crap. Through and through.
I'm obviously exagerrating, but yes, I'll 100% defend IE.
It works fine. It's integrated with the rest of windows. It means I don't have to download another program. For 90% of people, it's the best option.
I suppose you're going to moan about WMP next?
yeah, i was like that with my computer. going for it without protection. and for years nothing happened....
then suddenly, inevitably, IE fucked to shit. believe me, if you don't take precautions and use Firefox those unpleasant surprises are hard to get rid of.
(and how long does it take to download and install Firefox online. a minute? you don't have to pay. it runs alongside IE... could there be more?)
Jack I agreed with you, until my PC got filled with shit and stopped working. Had to download firefox cos IE died too - it is so so good!
See if you never try and you never find out why..
Firefox runs faster, has tabs which are possibly the best browser thing ever, has the great adblocking stuff and isnt a struggle to use like I.E. with its endless security holes etc.
Firefox is just as much integrated with the rest of windows and everything in it.
The difference is by using FireFox you are supporting open source ground level developers who are ultimately the people who make the whole computer world come togther.
And WMP is shit.. Winamp kicks its ass
edit// yeah of course jack i was like you for ages, and i still am with some programs, but once you start using altrenative programs, you start to realise how better it is!
and of course if you're browsing libcom - or indeed the CAG website - you see
at the top of every page 8)

"I've spent me 'ole life smokin' and it ain't done me no 'arm!"
Yes, Microsoft Kills.
Don't inhale.
I bet that's just because you dirty fucks spend all your time on dodgy porn sites.
IE works fine for me, and I'd rather have a commercial program written by proffesionals than some hippy crap.
sad boy. you don't think good ole bill employed/ripped off hippies to write his commercial crap then?
no, he spent hours of labour on it himself. obviously.
opensource software is good. i wouldn't use a lot of it until it works with windows but firefox does. its your loss.
The facts are simple.
IE works fine. For 95% of users, in 95% of situations, there's no problem.
It lies with you to prove there's a need to change, since IE comes as part of windows, and works perfectly fine for millions of users and businesses. It's not some deep ideological choice. I'm perfectly happy to use what works, like most people.
I think I still might prefer opera as a browser its got some good features that firefox doesn't, although I am using firefox at the moment, thats just because it came pre-installed and I couldn't be arsed to download opera so I cant prefer it that much.
Just to add another IE is shite comment, IE is shite. It renders pages incorectly, it doesn't follow W3C guidelines, its got huge security issues, its only just got a pop up blocker and its so crap you can't set it to allow pop ups you clicked a link to get up, as rkn says it doesn't allow tabbed browsing, which firefox/mozilla and opera have been doing for years and It doesn't display XML properly, all in all its the biggest pile of shite in the world (except front page *shudders*).
faster, jack. much faster.
It's not some deep ideological choice.
Are you sure? Giant corporate monopoly versus anarchic programmers?
I suppose you're going to moan about WMP next?
Media Player Classic is so much better...
Are you sure? Giant corporate monopoly versus anarchic programmers?
Mozilla and the bloke who wrote firefox aren't anarchic, they are themselves quite a large corporation too. Well the bloke isn't a large corporation, but you know what I mean.
I'm gonna go and try and find the bit on user friendly when they start taking the piss out of IE and then try and take the piss out of mozilla afterwards..... Scurries off.
Are you sure? Giant corporate monopoly versus anarchic programmers?
Yes. I'm sure.
Even if I'd paid for my copy of IE, it'd make no difference. Not using MS for political reasons would be like refusing to drink coke / eat at McDonalds / wear Nike for political reasons.
And we all know what people who do THAT are called.
They probably don't even hail the advances that allow burgers to be transported in liquid form.
drink coke / eat at McDonalds / wear Nike for political reasons.
I do none of those three, but that's because they're shit (liquid burgers must look like shit), not for political reasons.
And we all know what people who do THAT are called.
Vegans?
Not using MS for political reasons would be like refusing to drink coke / eat at McDonalds / wear Nike for political reasons.
I can't quite work out where you're coming from here Jack. Firefox is more reliable, doesn't get infested by spyware and has extra features. Where's the problem? Politics is irrelevant here so why are you mentioning hippy shit etc? You sound like you're supporting big business just for the sake of it, rather than candidly slapping down other people like they're attatching some deep ideological purpose, which I presume is what you're aiming for.
It's bollocks to say 95% of IE users think it's unproblematic, I'd say it's more like the opposite from my experience, but most people are far too technophobic/misinformed to switch. I've never had any problems reading any IE-based page with Firefox (I have however had all sorts of problems reading pages with IE). Also most IE use is corporate, with an anti-opensource agenda, and it is a monopolisitc package given away with computers so playing the 'it's popular for a reason' card is ridiculous.
He's just being "controversial"
jack your being a cretin!
firefox is the fucking damage, it's just so much prettier not mention functional. Built in ebay and google searches not to mention wikipedia.
as for WMP versus Winamp well blantantly winamp for music and for movies i use VLC player which is ugly but plays everything.
Jack open source isn't the cyber equivalent of dumpster diving if thats what your worried about.
Jacks all about the image.
As someone said above windows media player classic rules for vids, beats VLC imo...
windows media classic doesn't play as many formats as VLC.
plus vlc allows me to preview movies im downloading on emule.
on the technology front im going to buy a playstation portable from hong kong.
Jack is all about image in the same way gary Glitter is ie it's shit!

Firefox does indeed rule, I can't believe that I ever used that buggy ad-plagued IE crap.
