UPDATE:

I'll be starting the upgrade in about ten minutes - site will be offline until the first major bit is done. Any long posts - write them in notepad. You won't lose anything if you post it before the site goes offline

You can continue any conversations and stay up to date with progress at our backup forums: http://punkt.org/forum

This will mean a couple of hours downtime while we do the actual upgrade, then things will look a bit different afterwards since we're also working on a new theme. Once it's done there'll also be some tidying up to do, and we'll also be working on sorting some stuff out we've been putting off until after this job's done.

This post is just to give some advance warning so it's not a complete shock. It's most likely it'll happen around 10pm Friday.

It won't be a massive, massive change, but should be at least a little nicer than it is at the moment.

And no it doesn't fix the jump to last post problem sad

Is it really John? Is it? Is it? wink I am a bit worried about the process it will take to get there so would like to ask Catch if i should assume i will not be able to do much online this w/e - i was hoping to as i am busy tonight and tomorrow (Film Night and Russian) and cos i still hope to go to Dublin next week i was gonna do a lot of catching up this weekend. But if this process is gonna be severly hampered i may actually consider leaving the Lair!! And going to the cinema, cheesy clubbing, the Russian etc.

Over to you Catch - tell me how i should spend my weekend.. wink

Have just installed a module on the new site which lets us have private forums again, and moderators as well. So hopefully we can give the groups back their private forums if they want them, as long as it keeps working.

Maybe we will through togther a new features list at some point.

Lone Wolf. All being well it should be functioning a couple of hours after it goes down (which might be more like 4pm Friday if I can get to it, but I'll do an update about 30 minutes beforehand). We may have to take things off-line after that though if there's any major issues we run into.

Also, I was going to start a special update thread but may as well keep it here - if people spot issues with the new version please let us know.

At the moment we know there are problems with:

* Internet Explorer 5/6 (just go to IE7 or get firefox or opera ffs!)

* the forums and profiles will look a bit different initially, but should work fine.

* all of the indexes will be either completely broken or look crap (main index /history /library etc.) - because we have to do that work on the main database, and we'd rather do it with the site running live than be down for longer than necessary.

also we should have our old backup forums dusted off for while the site is down, so if you're really bored, you can chat about how much you miss us smile

it hurts me too.

With a bit of luck that'll get in the one after. Or we'll find a way to fix it ourselves beforehand.

do you think we'll ever get back the possibility of knowing who is online? This was originally a temporary thing to stop server needing to be kicked (whatever that means) but still here we are 6 months later without online-knowledge - it is more fun when you know who is here, so you can submit a post if you want ほか の 人 を していたい

You don't know either? You could be my soulmate wink
Atm you can have a reasonably up-to-date knowledge of who is on-line by noting the number of users then looking at user list. (under notes) . Those users at the top of the list will be those who are on-line - or at least most recently online. cool

I would like to see polls back and also the ability to edit pms and preview pms.

Catch - thank you for getting back to me - that info is really useful - now i know you may be starting this as early as 4pm i will do my tv guide now. i hope we don't lose too much/any posts/pms this time - fingers crossed! It will be nice to see the backups again - it has been a while and i kinda miss the old fellers. wink

I can't find the user list :grimace in a way that will hopefully get someone to do it for me:

admin: in the 'browse' menu on the right, notes - user list:

Does this mean I get to have my name in green again? It made me feel special.

Yeah that's possible. We've not had to kick the server for ages now (although we don't exactly know why that is), but it still runs very slow sometimes. Depending on whether performance improves or gets worse after the upgrade (probably a bit of both), we'll see how it all goes.

Is the rather odd layout of the main library page anything to do with this, or is that a problem at my end?

Using IE7 at the moment if that makes any difference.

Not out of the question but not a priority.

unlikely, with a bit of luck we'll get pm quotas though smile

I'll do a backup just after taking the site off-line, so should be a minimum of losses if any, even if it goes wrong.

the library looks shit right now yeah, this will change.

can we delete that damn "directory" as well please? lots of external sites are linking to them already, we'd better stop it before too many do!

Cool. So's this Drupal 5? How'd things go in the backend? Upgrade errors? Just curious

Yep this is drupal 5.

Had some errors with the javascript/ajax in the upgrade script itself - so update.php ran three more times than it should of. No actual errors caused though, just failed attempts to do things that'd already been done.

Loads of little bugs and stuff, especially since we did a new theme rather than try to fix/update the old one. But that's as much as as the software innit.

wicked smile yeah I like the new Drupal 5 admin menu system - once I got used to it..

Woot!! This worked!

Aketus - er what is the new Drupal 5 admin menu system, where is it and would it be helpful to me???

It's the system where admins manage the site!
It's probably hidden from you! It is from me at least! As it should be grin
It would not be helpful to you at all... unless you wanted to admin on Libcom smile

I was talking more out of experience playing with Drupal on other websites - not the admin menu here. More so as of a response to what rkn said.

P.S what sort of chocolate did you want again? smile

there's not much space for the actual posts in the page, is this because it has to fit in with the style of the rest of the site

seems right bunched up with loads of white space around it

yeah we thought we'd try more white space. It might decrease a bit either or both sides, but I quite like it though tbh.
