Archiving content from GeoCities websites
As far as I can tell, everything from Undercurrent is in the library. I added a couple of missing articles but pretty much everything was there before I started.
Yeah, all the articles from Undercurrent (from the geocities site, at least) are already on libcom. As for Antagonism, I'll probably finish copying it in the next day or two.
Cheers!
Ok, Antagonism can now be crossed off the list. I'm happy to start copying Practical History across in the next few days.
Nice one, a fair bit of practical history has been done already now I think.
Original post now updated.
Is the wage slaves stuff done now?
And dead end, how are you getting on with the insurrection raven stuff?
Hey, to anyone archiving stuff - mainly captain soap - we have a way of explaining the archives and tags.
Basically, if you create the content type intros then tag it with the group name, then you can put in a brief description of the group. You can also add an image like a group logo, and links to key articles, ideally say one which goes into detail about the history of the group, one which has its aims and principles etc.
So I created an intro for the red menace here:
http://libcom.org/tags/the-red-menace
I'm not sure if you can see the link to edit these intros captain? If not we could expand your permissions. Because it would be good, if the article from the practical history site giving an overview of the red menaces history could be chosen as a "key article".
Wage Slave X stuff still has a few a few items to do. Jack and I will be doing it.
Nope, can't see the submit content > intro thing. The only one's I've got are:
forum topic
history
image
library
news
Not able to edit existing intros either. Fiddle round with the permissions thing, and I'll see what I can do about finding key articles...
Wage slave, thanks for that.
Soap, you are now a "contributor" so should have a few extra powers now, like creating and editing intros.
Ok, Practical History is now all done. I'm happy to move on to No War But The Class War over the coming weeks; most of it has already been copied, I think.
Also, if anyone can be bothered (I probably can't), I've found another couple of geocities pages that may or may not be worth copying:
Some Brazilian commies (in Portuguese, though):
http://www.geocities.com/autonomiabvr/index.html
Russian left communists with some english stuff.
http://www.geocities.com/marxparty/eng/archives/archives.html
but archive.org has them both (as it does most of the sites listed in the OP, i think) so all will not be lost if they aren't copied here.
Ok, No War But The Class War is now done, and I am off to bed.
You rock! Sleep well.
Cheers Farce. NCAJSA is now here: http://www.afed.org.uk/nottingham/claimants/
I don't have any others.

Oops, sorry, forgot about this thread.
I added http://libcom.org/library/capitalist-state-illusion-critique-werner-bonefeld a little while ago.
Unfinished Business is already on here.
The Bonnano thing I assumed doesn't fit here, and besides, I'm pretty sure its available elsewhere, so I didn't add it.
The Negri piece is not coimg up.
That's all for Insurrection Raven
Cheers, updated the original post.
So Jack, the wage slave stuff done? If so please edit the first post accordingly.
Only some of it is done, Vestas kicked off right after I started, but that's basically at an end as of today, so will get a bunch more done this week.
Wage Slave X site is done, at least all of it I think appropriate here.
Apparently GeoCities sites will disappear on Oct. 26.

Yep, although sites like John Gray, which haven't moved yet, will be/are still accessible via http://web.archive.org
Well done everyone, many thanks for all your help!
If any people that have helped copy stuff over (you know who you are!) feel like posting more content in future we would definitely want to encourage that. Or if you can't think of anything to do we have some thoughts and suggestions...
Cheers again!
With John Gray, does anyone know who is doing the new site? Or are they planning on doing a new site? Because pages on the Web archive are very difficult to find, and you can't get to them via search engines
I think I must have thought that someone said John Gray was being moved - because John Gray is a great website, if a new site is not being made, I think we should try to copy as much of it over here as possible. We've added some stuff from it over the past few years anyway, and have some duplicates, but I think that still be a fair bit of stuff left over. If anyone could help us out with that that would be great!

The John Gray site won't be disappearing on October 26th - it was on the Geocities plus plan and Yahoo aren't killing those sites yet, only the free Geocities sites. However the Geocities pages should shortly be replaced with redirects to the new John Gray site which is undergoing some final beta testing.
Thanks for that. Are you involved in the John Gray site then? I had wondered who did it...
I see John Gray has moved, but details like the email address are still the same, and I'm not sure they're still valid.
The new site has links to get geocities sites now which we have archived here, like practical history and the red Menace, so it would be good if those links could be updated to point here.
Looking at the state of the collective action Notes website, it would still be good if anything not on libcom already were posted here as well, because it's a bit messy there!
Otherwise, looks like it's all done - thanks so much everyone! We only missed the Middle Eastern site, so I hope that wasn't very good... it's not on the way back machine

The redirects are not yet up so if you're looking at the original address(es) for the site (and it's the same colour scheme) you're still looking at the old site. Broken links are part of what the john gray monkey-bot is working on.

If you mean the new location it looks pretty much the same as it did before except without the yahoo adverts. I'd assume some changes will be taking place (if only to remove the geocities graphic).
Okay cool, but if you know who the John Gray monkey bot is please let me know so that we can drop them a line, to inform them where content has moved to (unless they are just going to search for it manually)
Captain soap, looks like you're doing some of collective action notes now? If so, that's excellent.
Thought I would let you know that I'm currently tidying up the TPTG piece on Chiapas to upload sometime next week, to avoid duplicating work!
yep. no probs.
