The link to the profile keeps the name that they signed up with, depends on how many name changes have been gone through.

This is hard to do, since some people are changing usernames to remove associations with their online identity elsewhere.
It is very confusing though with all the name changes going on, I have no idea who's who. People could possibly help this by leaving hints to their old username in their tagline.
