Private message bug

Hi All,

I haven't been posting recently as my account has gone a bit screwy:every time I try to log in I'm told I have two private messages but the last message shown is dated 08/11/08 and has already been read.

While I don't have access to the world's speediest PCs I'm also concerned about the delay in refresh rate whenever I try to move around the site, post or whatever. It's often upwards of thirty seconds before the instruction takes effect.

This is irrespective of where I am posting from work, internet cafes etc, etc...

Anything you can do?

Is the site slow when you're not logged in?

Could be messages be referring to some spammers messages who were deleted?

Could well be spammer messages - we used to have that bug a long time ago, maybe it sneaked back in to the new version of private messages.

I can probably do a mass update to mark all messages as read for now.

Catch: It's minimally faster if I don't log in, but what is bamboozling me is that I've done everything I can at my end on my regular PCs and it's only this site that's affected, irrespective of where I'm posting from...

OK, set all pms older than a week to read - hopefully this didn't miss up any real pms waiting in people's inboxes.

Udo - where are you based? What browser? Any unusual firefox plugins? I can suggest stuff to run on your PC to see why it might be slow, but I dunno how technical you are and it might not do much good.

Catch: thanks for the offer of advice, but I'm mostly using work PCs based in central London so I don't get access to the server and so on. I've just started defraging workstations and getting my personal profile cleaned up each day but it isn't making much difference I'm afraid.

Still getting the 2 new messages as I log in too.

The messages is a weird one, need to look at that more.

If you're in central London then this is a bit odd - are you using Firefox or IE7?

One thing you can do if it's not too locked down, is go into 'run' type 'cmd' then type 'ping libcom.org' and see how long it takes to bounce. AFAK no-one else has reported major performance issues recently so it's strange it's happening to just you. I might start a 'how fast is libcom for you' thread in case people are just grumbling to themselves about it.

Catch, it could be that setting messages as red didn't work, because the "two new" messages actually refers to to messages from spammers which have been deleted since...

Forgot the private message table structure had changed a lot - ought to be fixed now.
