Hey this is fun

Damn it! I was gonna see what happened to the time when I edited it, but it won't let me do that now!
EDIT: it looks as though you can only edit a post now when there are no replies to it.
EDIT: Yep, the time updates with the edit -- but I guess stopping you from editing the post once someone replies to it stops it being shifted to the bottom of the thread and putting it out of order like it was doing the other day.
yeah they turned off edits for 1st posts after replies because there's a delete option which should be admin only and deletes the whole thread.

That must be recent, I edited a post earlier and it dropped to the end of the thread.
Which meant that a minor grammar edit now has made my post make no sense
It might be that you can't edit them after you have posted again, rather than others.

Nope! That's what it was doing before, but now you can't edit as soon as anyone replies.

That's weird, maybe it's only in this forum, I'm going to have a look in another one.
It could be something to do with the Feedback forum. I noticed that the forum is only listed when you are logged in, unlike the others which are always there.
I can edit my most recent post on a thread in libcommunity.
Can't edit in currect affairs.
I have a strange feeling the forum was not the highest of the Drupal team's priorities. The more I look at the module, the more it starts to resemble heavily hacked blog/blog comments code than a conscious attempt at building a robust messageboard system. Unfortunately putting phpBB back in would probably destroy all of their plans for content integration on the site. And there's something to be said for all of the information and references in the forums being linked conveniently to other areas of the site. I've tried to solve as many of the problems with the forum as I can, if only because most of them annoy me as much as they annoy the people who post about them. There is a way to put editing back into the forum module, but in order to prevent it from shifting your post to the bottom of the conversation the module would have to be rewritten in roughly 3 separate functions. It would also need code added to insert a notice at the bottom that the comment has been edited, so that during a heated debate about something one cannot go back and pretend they said one thing when they really said another without it being indicated.
Ghostzart's right that it's mainly a modification of the comments system rather than dedicated forum software - it's got big advantages for integrating with everything else, but as a standalone forum it's not going to be as fully featured as phpbb. Ghostzart's improved a lot of things with it - there's a couple more that we've not put into place yet but will do hopefully some time today.
Also, Drupal's release schedule is quite frequent, so with a bit of luck work will be done on the forums module for the next release and it'll continue to improve, and as we learn more and more, we'll be able to contribute stuff back into Drupal to speed the process up.
With the editing and posts moving - I have a feeling it depends on which post you reply to - the original thread or the one just above. Will try to look into that.
