Libcom image library

This was something that was discussed before and I was wondering where it had got to.
The idea that we could produce a library of images for use by libcom and friendly organisations.
I was wondering if the legal and practical issues had ben worked out or if this one had been put onto the back burner.

Well I've worked out how to do image galleries - see the first 4-5 here: http://libcom.org/images

In terms of getting generic ones set up, ideally people would take them themselves and submit them, we'd have to find a way to organise it well.

I'm happy to take photos and put them up here, but I think it is the organisation of images that could prove to be complicated. I think tags would be too unwieldy, so perhaps several galleries of images with each image carrying a description. IT wouldn't be foolproof but it could still be useful.

Also in terms of copyright can we use a copyleft agreement so we hold the rights (on the off-chance a commercial org wants to use a picture) and if so how do we do that?

I'll keep any suitable pictures to one side on my HD and put them up on libcom then. I might wait until I've got a few, to give me an idea of how to classify them.

We could have galleries by sector, galleries by region. Same as current site organisation.

Would have to give people edit rights to the individual gallery to upload photos - probably restrict this to people who volunteer to do it (which is easy).

There's currently no way to re-use photos within drupal (so say file browsing when adding an image), but it's on its way.

And yeah copyleft and/or CC license is fine - we should have that in the footer of every page anyway.

what does this mean? That we'd not be able to load a drupal image to an article? so we'd have to save it to the HD and then upload it?

Yep.
