And can I put in countries as tags because that new regions menu is one fiddly motherfucker. Would it be possible to pick a region then a country from the region? As it is it is a bitch to scroll through countries.

I added a picture as an attachment, couldn't remember how to add it to the text (if that's possible)
Also the summary at the end in French can go if you want, there's a link to the blog there so people can find it. I thought it was useful even though it isn't the most clear piece of information.
edit: there's a lot happening can't manage to write it up tonight, those students are not very good at expressing themselves.
It's not hard.
The thumbnail is done by making a special url: the files/imagecache/article bit at the start.
The full size image link is done by putting class="thickbox" in the link to the original image. Otherwise it's just basic html stuff. You can copy those links into a different article and just change the filename, should work fine...
Right there is a chance that this is really going to heat up over the next few weeks, it's what I'[m hoping for at least and there are a few things I wanted to talk about.
IT's been said in the past that we could have a french forum if there was a need for it, so if we do have posters wanting to create a space for the struggles in France can we make them a subforum? Otherwise they could all go into world I suppose. I can keep an eye on the threads as well, although obivously you;d probably have to do the work of modding.
Are we ever going to have comments enabled for news stories? I know it makes a lot of work and they are usually shit but a fair few people got in touch with us that way during the CPE thing.
Would it be a good idea to set up an email account for contact about this struggle and put it on all of the relevant stories? It could also be put up on indymedias and stuff (last time alibi and me tried to post a link to our translations on the original source pages)
Would it be possible to set up a feed on the news page for the france tag? or even a seperate france front page.
OR any other ideas on how to best publicise this. If the students can hold on until the rail/edf/gdf workers go out then we've got soething big, if they're still out when the civil servants go out then we've practically got a general strike, especially if the teachers go too, which is very likely.
I might be getting a bit ahead of myself but last time I think turned out so well and that was mostly seat of our pants stuff. Even if we end up just making sure we're ready to chronicle the biggest defeat of the French working class in I don't know how long.

World would be fine, we could then move them into a special France forum if there's enough?

We're looking into it, but probably not for a while, want to have a "discuss" tab on those pages maybe but it's not easy.

Yeah we could do that - or we can make a special version of the contact form and link to that?

http://libcom.org/news/tags/france works. Feed somewhere on /news would be alright yeah.
Seperate france front page - we can do a panel like the Russian Revolution one. That'd be fine if you're up for writing up a couple hundred words for content + and image or two - one of us can sort layout.
Jef: another thing we could do is update the old blog rss feed to point to /news/tags/france/feed (which is really where it should go anyway). Then people who subscribed during CPE have a chance of coming across this new stuff.
If this all kicks off, it's going to be a couple months in advance of when the CPE did, in which case maybe a chance of it developing more before the exam/holiday cycle.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, I put up a post in there inviting people to contribute although I don't know how likely it is that anyone will find it. I also said libcom could host discussions etc.

That sounds like a better idea

If it heats up enough then a feed would be great.
When you say a couple hundred words for content do you mean in terms of articles or in terms of presenting the situation? I could probably put together a blurb of 3-400 words describing why everyone is striking just by cannibalising the news stories so far. Could also put in a bit about the healthcare system and things like that.
I'm quite worried we're going to lose. I'm going to go to the next AG for sure, I'll try and get a report, still have to decide if I want to risk taking my camera.
Yeah an overview/introduction thing - could link back to CPE etc. - for the panel text. Panel text links to tags/articles and can be updated as time goes on. Ideally blocks of text with headings - see http://libcom.org/history/russian-revolution for the basic layout.
jef, this is great, thanks.
i wonder if it might be worth us trying out comments by registered users being allowed on articles... maybe all of them. we could then post a comment with a link if it's being discussed on the forums... we can't allow anonymous users to comment tho cos we'll get too much spam
what do you reckon, worth a try?
If we allow comments now, it'll be no problem to present them as a tab at a later date so yeah fine to try it. I dunno if they look decent or not in non-forum, non-blog content types though but only one way to find out.
You can change default options in admin/content - by node type. Maybe just see how it looks on a couple of articles first, then I can do a mass update in the db to change the settings for old articles.
We get very few forum posts directly about specific articles, so it'd probably be quite different to those. Also everything shows up on the tracker anyway, so yeah let's give it a go.
I put this up as a blog post because it didn't quite seem right for news.
I couldn't get the picture to load for some reason so I gave up I was just going to re-use a picture so it's no big deal.
In terms of this introduction page will it be for the student strikes or for the wave of strikes that we're seeing now? I'm thinking the wave of strikes would be better as Sarkozy is taking on a lot of people at once. I can probably put a text up for that tomorrow, I'm knackered now.
And do we have anyone who can help out still on the books or is it just me for now? I'm going to pm alibi now but I have a feeling he's snowed under with work right now. It's not that much of a big deal but if this does kick off I'll have trouble keeping up.
:)

I'm going to be throwing up a few articles in the next couple of hours. I'm a bit pushed for time so if you could add pictures to any that don't have any please that'd be great.
I'm also going to try to link the french ones to each other but I might fuck that up or miss a few so if someone could have a look at them for me as well that would be great.
There is so much happening. If an anglophone wants to go at the screenwriters guild strike then there's probably loads of info on that. It's over DVD rights partly (increase from 3c per sale to 8c) and internet rights etc. I don't think I'll have time until tomorrow at the earliest.
