Pictures for library articles

A couple of pictures here for articles I've submitted (I know I should be able to do this myself but I don't really understand it).

Article on Italian base unions: http://libcom.org/history/anarchist-communists-italian-base-union-movement

Pics are added, JH. There should soon be a step by step guide to submitting and formatting articles and images.

Thanks. The guide sounds a good idea.

Uploading images:

1. Use jpg's or png's only.
2. give the file a meaningful name.
3. dont uplaod huge pix (over a mb)

there's a bbcode demo page somewhere, but I don't think anyone will ever read it 'cos it's got every possible tag in it.

Yo, so I've added an article to the library and I'm trying to add some extra pictures to it.. I've managed to attach them halfway down the page but there are two problems:

Firstly, I would like to display them side by side but the images always end up one above the other. I've tried making them smaller (like 300x300) and even though they definitely could fit next to each other it still shows up one above the other.

The second problem is that I can't work out how to add an explaining caption.

Is there any way to sort this out?

If you want to put in images and captions, I would suggest putting it in a table with four fields (two columns, two rows), then just put the two images in the first row, and the two captions in the second.

Yeah, tables are pretty tricky, but I remember you made one a year or two ago!

There's also a way to position them using html the command has thickbox in there somewhere. I just copied the example mike harman showed me though and it was long enough ago that I don't know where it is any more.

You could make them one image in photoshop.

Yeah, I remember, but I remember it was such a pain in the arse that by the time I'd actually made it, I couldn't look at a computer for like a week and never put all the data in!

Fuck sake, Red, I don't know how to use photoshop! smile

Considering I'm part of a web-based media collective, I'm surprisingly untechnological!

ed, just put the normal html/bbcode for the image in between the table code. have a look at the 'who are the libcom group' page for an example of the code.

just use the normal image code.

Otherwise, like red says you could stick them together. You could just use MS paint - open one image, resize the image to make it twice as wide, then paste the other one next to it. You can even make it say 20 pixels taller and type in the captions onto the images!

Hmm, I tried but it still shows them one above the other with the captions underneath.. I've even made the images smaller (300x300).. sad

Edit: will try Steven..

I don't think you could fit 600 pixels of picture across a page at all to be honest. The site automatically resizes them, I believe to something like 450 pixels wide. Do you really need them next to each other?

Meh, from an aesthetic point of view I think it'd be nice.. was thinking of having it as a pic going across the page like we did with the Visteon blog when it was originally on this site.. you reckon it's a possibility or should I just shelve the idea?

I would drop it. It's better to have things as flexible as possible, so that things won't get broken if we redesigned the site
