Spam

I've just installed Mollom spam blocking on the site.

Mollom text analyses all forum posts and comments (I disabled it elsewhere on the site for now), if it thinks your post is spam, it'll make you fill out a captcha before you can actually submit it.

This is likely to happen if your post contains more than a couple of links, and probably if it's got any swearing in it. So be prepared for teething problems. However it's supposed to be pretty good at stopping spam, so we'll see what happens. If we get news or other articles as spam, then I'll need to switch it on for those too, but figured the forum is the main target.

Post any major issues here, note that "I had to fill out a captcha" isn't a major issue, it's the whole point.

Choccy's having trouble posting.

I can post but he reckons the filter is stopping him posting outright.

I've asked him to pm me the error message. as no one has posted for ages this might be a widespread problem. Anyone who has a problem can pm me as well and I'll post it on here as well.

Choccy is getting the message
'Your submission has triggered the spam filter and will not be accepted.'
but he's not getting a captcha to fill in.

I'm going to try to post a link and see what happens. If I go quiet it means that it's got me too. It's like Apollo 13 smile

I've fallen back to regular captcha - bit of luck that should work.

You'll need to fill it out once each time you log in, but then it should remember you got one right and not bother you again until next time.

Choccy says he's getting this error even though there's no captcha box.
'The reCAPTCHA code you entered was incorrect.'

The captcha system seems a little odd to me, asking maths questions that appear as text won't necessarily stop spambots, but they might stop people with certain mild learning difficulties (dyscalculia, for instance) from accessing the forums properly.

I was going to use recaptcha (which helps the gutenburg project do OCR), but that's broken at the moment. I personally hate match captchas so hopefully it won't last long.
