Upgrade and downtime coming up today.
edit: change of plan. No-one apparently read this announcement, so I've gone ahead and switched the beta to the main site - but we're still 'in beta' for another few days until all the bugs are ironed out and until we're pretty sure there's no major bugs which will require restoring a backup
We're getting ready to upgrade the site to Drupal 6. This is a fairly big change and we're taking the opportunity to clear a bunch of things up and move stuff around as well. To try to reduce the disruption, there'll be a change to how we usually do it.
I'll switch off all commenting and post creation on the site, then run the initial upgrade
During #2 there's a small chance that posts which get lost during the period will need to be discarded, but it's a very small chance hopefully, and they'll be available for copy/paste if that absolutely has to happen.
When this actually occurs depends on when I get to some of the remaining stuff - ideally it'll be Saturday/Sunday.

I'm going to do a first run this afternoon. Will update here - basically only admins will be able to post comments (and they'll lose them while it's done). If it goes well, I'll post a new temporary URL for people to try it out, if it doesn't, then I'll switch comments back on here until the next run.
