Just out of curiosity, suppose I wanted to upload an entire ebook as opposed to just an article, how would I go about formatting it so it looks nice and organized, like this for example:
http://libcom.org/library/workers-councils-book-pannekoek
and not like a huge amorphous blob of text.

submit content > library or history as appropriate

do this for a title page (like the one you've linked to)

>add child page it should link automatically if it doesn't you can c&p the links

also use the url thing to give them consistent urls.

I would also like to be able to do this, so I can make this article readable. Only problem is, regular users don't have the 'book page' option under 'submit content'.

actaully jef, we're not using the book pages anymore (we should remove them from the form really).

when you submit a library article you can place it in a hierarchy, specifying a parent. so you can create one top-level 'book' with a graphic, tagged with author and relevant other tags etc, and a bit of an intro text (So-and-so's 1973 book on whatever...), then upload each chapter as a new library article, don't tag them with anything and set the parent to the top-level book you created.

apologize for possible thickness on my part, but how exactly does one set the parent page and create an hierarchy? The categories/fields I can add/change in submit content-->library are:
-Title
-Image
-Sector
-Regions
-Authors, people and groups
-Tags
-Introduction
-Body
-Location
-Log message
No "create hierarchy" or "assign parent page" option.

i've actually just had some problems with this myself, trying to do the libcom/PPS debate. i've posted on internal to try and figure it out.

it looks like you haven't got permission to see the 'book outline' field on the submission form either, but it's not working properly at the moment anyway. bear with us!

Yes, there should be a link to "book outline" which you can click and then expand.

So you click book outline then select "creating new book" from the drop-down list. Then when you have created a library entry for the book itself just click "add child page" then paste in the chapters 1 at a time.

If you can't see the link to book outline, we will try to sort this out - it should be one or two links above the map. But if you want to post something in the meantime, just post the library entry for the book itself, then posting here saying you've created it, and want it made into a new book. Then we'll do it and then you can add child pages.

thanks Steven. I don't see the book outline option yet, but it's not like I actually have an ebook ready to upload right now. I just wanted to know in case I might decide to do this in the future.

Right, authenticated users now have the ability to create new books and add to existing books.

Anything in particular you were thinking about adding?

nothing in particular right now, no, although there are a few essays by Walter Benjamin that I have been reading recently and that are rather good (and I noticed his Selected Writings are on the libcom "culture and criticism" reading list) and hard to find online, but I could just post them separately (I did one already).
In any case, book outline works now; I checked, so thanks for that.

Hey, i've uploaded something in book format (http://libcom.org/library/mutiny-raf-air-force-strikes-1946-david-duncan), but I'm not sure how to rearrange items in the table-of-contents/sidebar thingy. The 'foreword' and 'introduction' have slipped to the bottom despite being added first; they should go above the numbered items. I imagine i need to fiddle with the 'weight' function, but because any changes won't be visible til they're moderated it's probably better explained than I experiment randomly.

Yes, there is a slight bug with drupal. One of us admins just need to go to a URL to tie the book together.

And yes, the ordering of pages is done firstly by weight, and then alphabetically. So you need to edit those two and give them a negative weight so they "float" to the top.

I will do the URL thing now.

ok, changed the weighting, pending moderation.
