Moving organise over - guide and progress

Yo, this is mostly for ed who should be starting shifting it over at some point.

Basically, it's pretty much the same as history.

but with one main difference. You'll need to set up books for each of the subsections - workplace, general, personal, etc.

I set up workplace here, for example:
http://libcom.org/organise/workplace-organising

basically you just need to set up a page with the introductory paragraph in, paste in the end of the URL on the old site:
organise/general/

Then submit it. Then when you can see the page, click the tab "outline" next to the "edit" tab. Then click "Add to book outline". This will turn it into a book.

To add sub-pages, like the Work-to-rule guide or something, click create content > thought again and fill in the fields.

For the URLs of the articles, they currently look like this:
http://www.libcom.org.uk/organise/general/articles/how-to-start-a-group....

so in the URL box at the bottom paste in
organise/general/articles/how-to-start-a-group.php

Within articles, if you're adding a link to another organise article in the text somewhere (for example that how to start a group one links to the financing your group one), enter the address like this, with the slash at the beginning:
/organise/general/articles/financing-a-group.php

Then when you're done click Submit, then again click Outline tab. For parent book, select the section you want it to go in, like Workplace organising.

this should be pretty much it!

any pages with multiple pictures on you can leave to me to do if you like - just post their address here.

Also, was thinking the work-related stuff in Personal should actually be in workplace.

good luck!

just added the basics thing to organise but its being really funny. The picture isn't being wrapped by the text and its making everything look weird.

Also, I'm not sure if one of the links is gonna work coz we're organising this section differently. Anyway, here's the link: http://libcom.org/organise/workplace/index.php#action

Jesus, I'm seeing another stressy computer day coming!

You don't bother with links with #something in.

the pages are messed up right now, and they say Intro and Article but that should be possible to sort though.

Unless catch you think it's easier to just use book pages for organise shit?

spose it'd be okay, don't really need thumbnails, tho would be nice cos we have those pics...

Theming issue. Still nothing on getting the book navigation links in properly. Either way it can be fixed later.

edit: - not worth bothering, no external links to those anyway. Having said that, be good to remove internal references to them from it.

A basic introduction on why [missing word: we? you? people?] should organise at work, and a few tips on how to get started.

i edited in the square brackets because an ambiguous word is missing ...

I'd go for gettings what's there over first, then editing stuff in or making new sections later.

yo ed if you do any more, i'm changing names of all articles so they end "guide":

e.g. News report writing guide, Book review writing guide, etc.

this is for google searches + things.

right finished demos.

catch could you make history index which just lists the top level book pages in organise, ideally with intros, for all the sections?

if you need i can look and find links to each section...

confused Don't get it.

You mean you want a list of all the top level organise books with intros - nothing else?

er, maybe 1 latest addition and one "featured" (i.e. random) article title/teaser/thumbnail as well - that cool?

John - i dont like how the book thing is working, cos for a page in workplace organisng we have:

1. a tag: workplace activity
2. a book: Workplace organising
3. the old 'book' title (which appears in URL): workplace

I think we need to find a way to uniform these

that's for personal accounts of stuff people have done at work, shouldn't have any organise shit in

2. a book: Workplace organising

it should all go in here

3. the old 'book' title (which appears in URL): workplace

er, i don't know what this is :?

oh, do you mean the old urls went organise/workplace/article.php?

yeah when you move the old ones into here and copy in old URLs it just turns them into secondary URLs, but the actual URLs that will be used for links to the articles are the new auto-ones, so can just ignore the old ones really, they can just be used to catch referrals from old links.

Ah ok, i was confused but now i understand those 3 points.

This isnt true. I showed Z how to do this yesterday, as per your instruct, pastin the old url into the URL path box. Now when i go to libcom.org/organise and try one of the articles it defaults to:
http://libcom.org/organise/workplace/articles/key-employment-rights.php

i.e. the old address. So maybe need to use URL alias function not that path URL thing in the article, because thats making the default the old URLs we put in. iyswim. We dont want the URLs to have that articles in them or that .php on the end really!

Anyway zobag is on the case now, and we can always change stuff once shes got all the data in. Shes also gunna be doing news. Yes and we have done tags wrong on those few articles - really the onlt tag we should have is 'work' i guess. not workplace activity.

very weird, cos i've done hundreds and they've all defaulted to new ones. Even some of zo's have by the looks of it:
http://libcom.org/organise/health-and-safety-the-basics

I mean if you submit it, then edit and paste the old URL in then it uses just the old one...

Cool. tho work is a pretty defunct tag really cos it's too wide-ranging, i wanted to delete it.

If there aren't any tags that fit i'd just not use them. but where appropriate you can tag with things like:
strikes, wildcat strikes, unions, on-the-job action, occupations, work-to-rule, green bans etc.
