site menu

I'm going to mess with the site menu a bit. So if it looks funny that's why.

ah i see content browser takes you to latest content, and opens up submenus. hmmm bit confusing... but i spose it's cool. dunno would be nice to be clearer somehow, i'll have a think. at the mo it looks like forums latest is more prominent than content latest.

in contact us, might it be better to have some kind of notes/about submenu that has links to all our notes pages? (if you think the footer is too low down?)

Yeah be good to promote forums latest down.

Also could have a different icon maybe for content browser to see that its expandable? Or as there is much there have it expanded by default.

used to be different icon but I'm pretty sure it woz u wot killed it rkn putting the arrows in. We can compare to default theme and makes someting though yeah. And expanded by default sounds good.

I reckon we should have notes links there, probably other stuff as well just not sure what.

How about mirroring the top menu, but putting more stuff in.

home
news (collapsed)
-news regions
--uk
--africa
--etc.
-news sectors
--construction
--etc.
library
-new additions
forums
-forums latest
history
-history regions
--region 1
--region 2 etc.

something like that - each section collapsed but then expands to show options once you're on the index.

forums
-forums latest

wouldn't it be better, to not mirror top menu, but maybe have drop-downs from top menu?

I think "content browser" should be called "latest content", and forums latest should be inside it like the others.

hmmm but tags don't show latest content... could call it content browser but put latest content inside it as well? Maybe keep it non-expanded but clicking on it opens it up while keeping you on the same page?

if it's expandable could use that arrow pointing down?

contact us could be inside expandable "notes and contact"?

Do you mean this kind of thing? http://www.brothercake.com/dropdown/

We can do that - just requires extra module. Not sure how great it'd look but it'd save space and avoid duplication.

cool! I was expecting a "fucking javascript" tbh and backed up everything just in case wink

main issues are getting the drop downs the same as the menu items at the moment, and I have trouble actually getting to the menu items before they disappear as well. All changes I've made are overrides in normal styles.css rather than the modules sheet which'll get deleted every upgrade.

I'll leave the css well alone now and try adding some menu items to it!

Its JS and not DHTML?

TBH i would rather keep top down for our 'core' sections listings, then have the left coloumn menu with stuff like notes, content browser in it. Can we have another dynamic menu there which drops-down to the right? instead?

I think it's JS yeah - certainly it includes a js file.

It plugs into the main menu system though, so it should be easy to replace with dhtml version if and when one comes along.

We can have as many dynamic menus as we like - so fine to have two yeah - all you have to do is go to nice_menu2 in blocks, choose which parent menu you want it to use, and enable it.

Can we have two right columns? wink Actually, since we're fucking around, I'll do that now just to see how it looks again.

css issues:

I removed borders but think instead we should make them black (or just look good) since it messes with how it treats the cursor.

can't get it to right side of page without breaking ie.

readme.txt file has instructions on how to customise. I think it'd be good to have the active parent highlighted - that's default but currently overridden.

Catch u love the two right coloumns.

Yeah i wanna style it a bit so like you active parent highlight, and also rollover colours, and a way so people know to roll over for extra options.

Cool. That's all there in the default style sheet, so best bet would be to kill what I've done in styles.css and do it properly wink
