The State Dictating How We Should Think.

This concept is nothing new, but it is always an amazing experience in state planning, when the media, whilst openly co-operating with the government, tries to influence public opinion, and give an entirely false and spurious representation of what the public actually thinks. The UK at the moment, continues to be held captive by a vicious rightwing political ideology, that has been present since the Thatcher victory in 1979. The New Labour blip was really Toryism in disguise – soon after their victory in 1997, Blaire and his cronies attacked Disabled Benefits, and of course, following the death of the racist Enoch Powell, Blaire declared him a ‘great man’.

This present attempt to manipulate the country has evolved around the farce being trumpeted (literally at times) as the Royal Wedding. The LibCon rightwing coalition, whilst destroying the NHS, the Welfare System and Free Education in the UK, have tried to cynically use this more or less irrelevant event to take the mind of the nation off of the reality of the pain and suffering their rightwing policies of slash and burn are inflicting.

Socialism is possible. In fact, it is logical. If the British state media, under the guidance of the government can make an irrelevant upper class event appear as if it is in every ordinary person’s best interest to celebrate, then exactly the same control of the media can be used to perpetuate leftwing political thought and social reform. It just takes will power and the fact that it is not happening at the moment, goes to show just who is in control of the state media at present, and the kind of government in Westminster. Of course, the rightwing press would have us believe that because the rightwing media portrays leftwing thinking as madness and illogical, then it must be also true that no one in Britain adheres to, or supports leftwing thinking. Control of the media is important for the establishment of a sympathetic leftwing government. The Royal family is a tired tradition and it should be abolished. Many Royals receive state benefit, but do not, of course, have to submit to the demeaning and degrading application process, nor are they oppressed by the DWP. These privileged people have nothing in common with ‘us’, and we should not submit to media manipulation or emotional blackmail. Stay tuned for yet another Royal divorce.

i agree with 90% of your post, but i would slightly disagree with the above quote,
IMO the state media is not the most important thing playing up the royal wedding, it is the capitalist media (which is independent from the state, but highly supportive of it) seizing the oportunity because they want to use nationalism to get the workers to rally around the state, and hence support cuts and build common ground between british capitalists and british workers etc, contrary to their own class interests.

I agree 100% with you above comment. Thank you for your input. The distinction you make between 'state' and 'capitalist' media is an important one, although sometimes it is hard to distinguish the two in postmodern times. By doing so, you have clarified the issue.
