Travelling Abroad

Hi, I'm a young 22 year old anarchist about to graduate from school in San Francisco, CA. I'm hoping to travel abroad soon and want to do so doing, well, anarchisty, socialistic stuff - I'm really wondering what are some anarchistic programs that an English major without second languages can do in Latin America and Europe, hopefully doing some good without being a naive tourist. If you can, give me some decent suggestions.

Thanks.

If I understand the question - I'll be honest, I'm not sure what an anarchistic program is - Teaching English is the easy answer. You will need to get a TEFL qualification, but the fact that you're an English major will already be in your favor. In general, the pay is not great in South America, but you can find a decent wage in Europe, especially if you have a year or two of experience already.

Good luck in any case!

The Mexican government hosts an Anarguistas Gringas Intercambio for anarchists just out of college . they have hot air balloon rides at the day t ime and urban guerilla warfare training at night and then margaritas afterwards. they also send you every sunday to the Ricardo y Flores Magon Learning Library to study anarchist theory.

LOL BUT SERIOUSLY just go wander around and try and learn some spnish and take note of the peoples faces and the cities and maybe read open veins of latin america or some such book . TRY TO TASTE THE IMPERIALISM

Hahaha, thanks cresspot, wouldn't that be great. No, I'm most likely doing a WWOOF program doing farming somewhere, but I'd be open to any volunteer suggestions that aren't opening fucking microbusinesses in Africa (that's a thing, apparently).

Nothing.

Learn Spanish, it's easy as shit and surely essential if you wanna be some sorta organiser/activist/do-gooder type anywhere in the Americas?

EDIT: Or shell out £22 (?) to register on workaway.info, maybe you'll find something you like in Europe there.

Try to contact anarchist organizations ahead of time in the places you'll be visiting, say you're coming for a visit to their part of the world, ask if they'd be willing to invite you along to hang out with them some time, like at a cafe or pub or whatever it is anarchists do for fun. I know a couple people who just came back from Europe and they hung out with anarchists in various countries by doing this. Not sure how they got in touch with them all.
