Barcelona: things to see and do?
Hey all, me and Gav are DJing in Barcelona this weekend, and although I've been there before I haven't really seen much political or historical stuff, so I'd like to this time.
Can anyone recommend anything in particular? Whereabouts is the CNT office/shop, for example?
Any tips appreciated!
there is a website www.cnt.es...

It's a place on the left side of the Ramblas when you are near the habour. You'll see it if you search in google maps with: > CNT, Plç. Duc de Medinacelli 6, BARCELONA <
I thought the bookstore was just near the MACBA, on Carrer de Jouquin Costa I think. Though that could be FELLA, check that out anyway. http://nodo50.org/fella/comu/index/wf_QueEsEng.php
And if you're there, check out the CCCB, it's just around the corner from MACBA, you'll have to pay in but they usually have some interesting stuff.

Avinguda de la Catedral is an area that was bombed during the spanish civil war, lots of tourists around, I think there's also a little square around there full of bullet holes from where executions took place or thats Place Del Pi. Can't remember, I'll have to check this out as a friend of mine got shown around all this a few years ago, I can ask them.
I'm sure you know what clubs are worth going to.
I like this little colective bar L'Antic Teatre on Carrer de Verdaguer i Callis, its in the Bari Gottic near Urquinaona metro stop. Its kindof where the younger hipper locals hang out, but bear in mind this being barcelona that this means crusty (in a fashionable way). You need a member card to get drink but that should be easy to sort out.
Thanks for that. I looked at the CNT website but couldn't get much from it, it's all in foreign!
I'll try and check that stuff out Shorty.

There are a couple of offices. At the bottom of the Ramblas facing the sea turn left. A few hundred yards up on the left is a small square. There are offices there but if they aren't expecting you they probably won't let you in. Its a working office and not really open to unannounced callers. The CNT used to do a stall on the Ramblas on market days but I can't remember what day that is and don't know whether it still happens. Go to the cemetary on Mont Juich if you want to visit Ferrer, Ascaso and Durruti's graves.
MartinH may be able to advise re anarchist bars, though his knowledge may also be a bit rusty for all I know.
