Jean Malaquais?
Hi,
Does anybody know about jean malaquais and his book -planet without visa. I learned that it was basically about marc chiric who was a founder of ICC with an historical backround of IIWW. If anybody have its english version -if exist?- and send me a photocopy or tell me how to reach the book or even tell me about I'ld be glad. Maybe we can even translate it to turkish.
It's a bit more than just about Chirik, as other thinly disguised personalities like Victor Serge and Andre Breton also feature. I've got the original French version which was republished fairly recently
Glad to hear it can still be bought. I have a copy but it would be a huge job photcopying it. Marc had some reservations about being portrayed in this way, but I think it's a beautifully written and evocative account of the times, largely based on real events. It's true that there are portraits of various figures (as well as the ones Battlescarred mentions, there's also the American guy who was involved in helping Jews to get out of France, can't recall his name offhand) but Marc is a much more central character. Malaquais was always close to the positions of the communist left, but I don't think he was actually a member of the group during the war.
Hi,
Glad to see there's still some interest in MC's life. We wrote a two-part tribute to him in 1991 shortly after his death, which is now available online:
Marc, Part 1: From the Revolution of October 1917 to World War II

Marc, Part 2: From World War II to the present day

MC's wife Clara sadly died last year and there is a tribute to her here:
Homage to our comrade Clara
