Joe Hallsworth

Does anyone have any information on Joe Hallsworth, member of IWW buried in Weaste cemetery in Salford. I've not been able to discover much about him. The waters are a bit muddied by there being another Joseph Hallsworth, a bigwig in USDAW who got a knighthood.

Just had a quick scan through my old copy of Radical Salford by Eddie and Ruth Frow but couldn't see him mentioned in there. Also searched the website of the Working Class Movement Library in Salford but got zero results. You sure that's the right spelling?

Coincidentally, my maternal granny is buried in Weaste.

Yes it is. He is mentioned in entry for William Horrocks, SDF/BSP activist in Dictionary of Labour Biograpy Vol 9. Horrocks was buried in Weaste Cemetery on April 27th, 1918. When Hallsworth died in Salford, he was buried in same grave by socialists of Hyndman Hall, as he had no funds or relations to pay for a funeral. So he died not too long after Horrock's burial

I see that note in the Dictionary of Labour Biography is from either Ruth or Eddie Frow as well. So as the Frows were the founders of the Working Class Movement Library, then it might be worth giving WCML a bell and see if they've got anything.
