I'm wondering if anyone has the original source for the following quote by Otto Von Bismark: “Crowned heads, wealth and privilege well may tremble should ever again the Black and Red unite!” Apparently, he proclaimed this upon hearing of the schism in the First International in 1872.
I originally came across the quote in an article called "Shall Red and Black Unite? An American Revolutionary Document of 1883" by Chester Destler (awesome name!) in the Pacific Historical Review, Dec. 1945, but with no reference. I also googled it, and found two articles that also use the quote - one from a libertarian socialist magazine in the 70s and another from some bizarre U.S. conspiracy theory sounding rant - but no references.
Any help is would be much appreciated.
