"...anything you wanted to know about socialism but were afraid to ask"

Cowards.

Thought at least you're now following the word "libertarian" with the word "communist" on the home page title.

so the new CSG are for libertarian socialism but libcom is for libertarian communism, and this forums just about socialism

what are the essential differences between libertarian socialism and libertarian communism?

In my day, we used to be proud to call ourselves anarchists...... *drone*

no problem wit libertarian communism but the use of "socialism" by itself is fucking quite pathetic, fuck me half of europe is run by "socialist" parties.

socialsim is as about meaningless as feminism.

eh? Yikes...I've got no problem calling myself a socialist, but only because I view socialism as something completely different from what the majority of people do. It's a bum term, much like libertarianism.

Why cant you guys just fucking say ANARCHISM?

GOd, I kneeeeew you were going to do that. You could do it as easily for Socialism, Communism or Libertarianism, all of which are relevent. Still, Anarchism is a far better term.

By the way, it's http://www.crimethinc.com. -.org gives you a random cheap site with links to Jewish dating service.

or "libertarian communism" - like the ussr but with more members of the libertines... hence "anarcho-syndicalism/anarchist syndicalism". because only complete losers can come up with an example as to how THAT is associated with something unsavourable.

oh no. a spectre is haunting jack. it is the spectre of green anarchism. All the powers of libcom have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre

although to be honest a random jewish dating service sounds a hell of a lot more fun than libertarian communism. wink

..... and I also think people are more likely to say, "An anarchist, you say? Tell me, what does that involve precisely?" as opposed to thinking, "Best fuck off before this cunt tries to sell me a paper."

angry HEATHEN!!

The thing is, that IS socialism to most people whereas anarchism is relatively unknown except for its reputation of violence and chaos...which can be dispelled with a half-decent look into it. The dropping of anarchism pisses me off, that's our frickin' word.

I find myself pretty annoyed with this change over and even more so with the rationale behind it. After all Green Anarchist might quietly dream of gulags and killing millions but 'socialists' have actually done this in living memory - and more than once. The crimes of the communist parties (and the social democrats) are a lot more relevant than the reactionary imaginings of a handful of beardy guys no one has ever heard of if your going to worry about the immediate impact of a single word.

Ultimately its another example of libcom (once) enrager evolving because the politics of the people running the site have evolved.

I suspect if peopel keep on commenting on this, the reply will be "love it or leave it".

In this case though I'm beginning to feel like evolving away from the site. They are entitled to do with it as they wish but I'm interested in it as an anarchist discussion board rather than a socialist one. If I want to argue with the SWP I use indymedia.ie which at least has around 20,000 viewers a day.

This forum used to say "everything about revolution", which was a bit lame. We thought libertarian communism might be a bit much for a welcoming introductory forum, and ideally this site we hope to be both broader and narrower than anarchism - narrower in that we're not bothered about non class struggle varieties and broader in that we hope to include independent/libertarian socialists and so on.

Every term is loaded (@revol68 in particular) and has negative baggage, and while all the alternative titles would also be ok, we felt that the socialism one best described what kind of questions people generally asked on here when they started out. We didn't think it was that important really, if people want it changed to something else we can do, cos we had some trouble thinking up how best to describe this forum for newcomers!
