Ok, I meant the previous hunger strike mentioned on this thread.

Not being on the ground in Belfast its hard to tell but from reading here - http://www.indymedia.ie/article/87574 Its hard not to worry about the fact that you have trots either side of the barricades on this one. Not exactly known for political honesty really.

Oh ffs gdid this is not a spat between trots. This case goes back years. That Jimmy Kelly is compromised as a bureaucrat in the T&G/Unite and effectively on the wrong side in this dispute was not engineered. These men have been shafted repeatedly and the SP among others have been pretty consistent in their support of them. That the SWP haven't is a reflection on where they are at in regard to workers in struggle, nothing more or less than that.

So stop worrying, you sound like a paranoid anarcho-punk.

If you don't know anything about the situation on the ground, gdid, perhaps you'd be better off finding out about it rather than spouting off first? You could start by asking some of the anarchists who have been involved in supporting the workers concerned if you are afraid that evil "Trots" will lie to you.

The idea that this is a row between different Trotskyist factions is a malicious lie being spread by people who support the union bureaucracy. Does anyone really think that these workers would fight for six years and repeatedly go on hunger strike in order to get one over on the SWP? In fact there aren't even "trots" on both sides. There is one SWP member on the side of the bureaucracy, because he is actually head bureaucrat. The rest of the SWP are hiding somewhere and not saying anything.

In every major working class struggle in Ireland you'll find the Socialist Party involved, sometimes in a major role, sometimes in a minor supportive role. I'd have thought you'd be used to it by now. If you are going to withhold your support from a struggle because the SP also support it, you won't have very much to do. And does it really surprise you to find the SWP acting the maggot when it comes to a campaign? This is a very straightforward story. It's a struggle between a group of sacked workers and their employers and the bureaucracy of their union.

This is exactly what I just did. What is your point exactly?

What are you on about, my only concern is that you have members of one trot group in a dispute with members of another trot group. Boul clarified, leave your bizarre strawmen out of it.

Actually, no you didn't. There's no question in your original post, just a handwringing comment about how worried you are that there are "trots" on both sides of this dispute and how they aren't politically honest. That wasn't a question, it was a comment. A comment which, as I pointed out, echoed the lies put about this week by supporters of the union bureaucracy.

How exactly is that "a concern"?

Is it a problem for you to be on the same side of a dispute as some Socialist Party members? Is it a problem for you to be on the opposite side of a dispute as one SWP member? If not, then what precisely is there to be concerned about?

20 May, 2008 - 15:40

I am never concerned about being on the same side of a dispute as the SP, no. Thats strawman nonsense, I get along great with the SP. I am not really interested in discussing this with yourself though, you seem very wound up today and it will just degenerate. You know well what I was asking comrade.

I've just heard that a rally which was planned for tomorrow is on hold, as T&GWU / Unite may move on some of the issues before the end of the day.
