libcom has an article in the library on a number of workers' actions in limerick, but also elsewhere in munster, around 1920. i found this fascinating. my father was from clare, had a strong memory and an interest in local history, yet never said a word about it. these actions may not have reached clare (and my father would have been young at the time), but it's still surprising to me that i'd never heard. the article mentions a book by historian conor kostick about the events called revolution in ireland, and i'll be getting that through my librarian wife, but in the meantime does anyone have any further info about it?

Check out http://www.wsm.ie/history for a number of articles around the workers movement in Ireland in the 1913-22 period. Emmet O'Conors 'Syndicalism and Ireland' is well worth reading, you can hear him talk on the topic at http://www.indymedia.ie/attachments/mar2007/emmet.mp3

I wrote a 50 page research article for school about this as I live in Limerick where the Soviet happened in 1919. Sadly, the vast bulk of the material collected by historians (such as the late great Jim Kemmy) has gone way out of print but I managed to get access to it as I knew the right people an so on. I can post up a link to a PDF of my document if you'd like when I find it again but if you want some online materials then www.limericksoviet.com is the official website of Liam Cahill who worte a book called "Forgotten Revolution" on the Limerick Soviet which is available completly free on his website. All of the material Jim Kemmy collected was locked away only a few months after I accessed it as he had died recently and left his collection to the library of the University Of Limerick
