Political Film Society

I notice that the Unemployed Resource centre has played host to a screen of Ken Loach's Bread and Roses. I wonder is there any scope for establishing a political film society that could hold screenings regularly? I've had some of experienc of doing this while working in England - organising films to commemorate the Diggers and to raise issues of human rights. They were suprisingly successful. Of course, I was told that no one would be interested but I found if you tied the film in with a relevant speaker and a discussion people came and really seemed to get something from the experience.

There is a progressive film club in Connolly Books.

Is this in Dublin? What films have you shown? What sort of interest does it attract?

I would suggest you contact just books or the new WSM branch if you want to hook up with people for screenings. I would suggest buying your own projector like we did in Dublin, its well worth it in the long run.

There is a torrent-tracker thread in libcommunity with some good films linked.

It's run out of Connolly Books, the bookshop run by the Communist Party of Ireland. I'm not sure about the interest but I'd say there'd be a few dozen people in the theatre. They have a brand new theatre which is very nice.

They've shown films such as This is England, the Battle of Algiers and loads more I dont know of. Might be worth your while.....?
