Does anyone know why the kid was stabbed?

Essentially some people want security at gigs and some people feel that would be self-defeating as the gigs are meant to be empowering and functioning outside the normal models of the rock industry.
Security doesn't have to mean hired bouncers -- they could talk to some of their older mates to come along. Anti-fascists and hunt sabs are my big people of choice 8)
That's pretty fucked up. As far as getting security in at gigs, Giros used to hire bouncers for the dance nights and it never caused any hassle anytime I worked, had a decent rapore with one or two of the guys and they usually calmed any potentially dangerous situations. Bouncers can be an unknown quantity though so you never know if they're gonna be cocks.
to be fair any party/gig that people put on, security needs to be thought about, seriously.
trouble kicked off at a party i was helping with not so long ago, about 5 in the morning and i was left feeling a little exposed having to deal with pissed up punks on my own. Having mates around me that i could have behind me to back me up was all that was needed. And thankfully thats what we'd had for most of the party and for the rest of it.
security doesnt have to mean big buggers stood on the door frowning checking peoples shoes as they walk in.
Just make sure you've got people there who can handle themselves and have respect for the people around them.
Its just a fact of life that no matter how progressive the organising collective want a gig/party to be, there is a chance there are going to be complete twats turn up who want the opposite.
hope the kid who was stabbed is ok.

yep exactly, I think it's fairly prudent to have a few people about who know how to diffuse situations or eject people who are just being cunts to others.
Some of you might be familiar with the BASTA! collective who do non-profit all ages gig in Greystones and even did a Dissent! benefit in the CAC. All the members of the collective are under 18 and they are debating what to do after a recent stabbing at one of their gigs.
