Nicely done!

I just found this video of the SWU group in the Cony Island Mermaid Parade. Very cool! I've seen attempts at radical and labor particpation in community festivals that looked completely dour and out of place, this is bang on the money!

....or downright scary. Too bad everything associated with coney will be gone within a year. Bloody condo developers.

They're keeping the cyclone and moving it. But astroland and everything with it will be condos in a year or so.

I can't believe I watched that entire video. What's the mermaid stuff about?

There's a dingey pub beside my bus-stop in town that had a 'Topless barmaid' sign in the window for weeks, then one day it changed to 'Topless mermaid' which I found kinda funny.

Coney Island is a largely working class beachfront neighborhood in New York, over the last century or so it's been home to a variety of amusement parks and arcades. The parade is sponsored by a community arts organization, "dedicated to preserving the dignity of American Popular Culture", although anything less dignifed than "American Popular Culture", as defined by beachfront amusement parks is hard to fathom.

I forgot to mention that Mermaid Ave. is a street in the neighborhood and of course a mermaid is the starbucks logo.
