i think this is a good way to go, with websites specific to branches. good stuff.

11 October, 2007 - 22:29

well they could also be part of the iww site, like norwich.iww.org.

its good that local branches have their own site, but it doesn't detract from the main site where anyone with an interest in the union should start.

12 October, 2007 - 05:56

yea, it would be their own site. just hosted by the (supposedly) international one. Either way they should get a page on the international one.

12 October, 2007 - 05:58

yes see your point, it would be best, then at least when you go to the main site its all there for you.

Unlike the conventional unions which operate within the labour-market; the IWW seeks ultimately to abolish the wage system and organise production according to the needs of people, not profit.

i think that should be a comma not a semi-colon.

OK maybe I'll reword it "unlike the conventional unions which operate wholly within the labour-market: ..."
or : "unlike the conventional unions whos sole interest is the labour-market: ..."

Trying to emphasise that the ultimate aim isn't an increase in wages, but the complete transformation of production relations!

Prefer to keep it on a seperate server, most UK branch websites do it this way..

you mean labour market, like the labour party ideal for a market?

13 October, 2007 - 16:11

No like the fact that we all have to get up every morning (or most mornings) and try to sell our labor to survive.

No, I mean labour market as in labour-power bought and sold as a commodity! As Oliver said.

14 October, 2007 - 18:53

oh. but we do live in that market no matter what union we are in.

15 October, 2007 - 08:52

I don't suggest that we can simply opt out of the market by joining a union, or declaring oneselve an ananrchist or communist (or by growing a beard)! The point is as I've said before : the IWW wants to ultimately abolish the labour-market, the other unions mearly want to negotionate within the market i.e they are a fully intergrated part of capitalism.

Going to change the wording to this one when I get chance: "unlike the conventional unions whos sole interest is the labour-market: ..."
