why does this forum exist? what do people want out of it?

Submitted by Nate on 4 September, 2007 - 14:15.

A discussion started on the IWW UK Starbucks thread about what the Libcom Wobblies forum is for and what people want from it and whatnot. I don't have time to recopy the posts from there into this thread, but I can do so this coming weekend. Anyhow can we talk about this?

What do people think this forum is for? What do people want to get out of this forum?

More Wobs post here than on the forums on iww.org, that's fer sure.

Not a wob of course but its nice to hear what y'all are up to and this forum tends to be much more sensible than like wob myspace and crap like that.

That is the nicest thing Thug has ever said about us!

Have you read his discussions on the wob myspace? Anything is better than that.

The guy was a drone, he didn't know how to deal with you. I loved it.

Funny, thug doesn't seem to need any help. Which forum did you set up to help yourself get laid?

It is a good thing you clarified. I'll call Jeff and tell him to cancel his plane ticket to Dublin, then.

I think we should wait until the site gets its upgrade and then elect a mod for the libcom wobblies scetion.

8 September, 2007 - 00:53

To the original question:

I like this forum cause it has sensible wobblies in it and has been a source of support and materails (trainings, booklets etc). I think if it wasn't for this forum (and excellent folk here, you know who you are...) I probably would have given up the IWW in disgust by now.

According to the website report at GA a major overhaul of the iww.org website is planned. I was thinking perhaps we might all try going en-masse to those forums, especially if they can be made member-only (those of us who are memebrs here) and try to stir stuff up. I would love love love if others in the union had access to the stuff I'm found here.

And I don't know if a mod is a bad idea. I also don't know that it's a good idea. And I don't know who I would vote for.

(shotgun not me)

8 September, 2007 - 02:29

whoa... IWWs to the factories! err or to the websites! i like being here because we can be all libertarian-left, but going en masse to something would be rad (drown out the activist nonsense). *shrugs* work makes my brain mush. sorry if this is tawded. (self pun)

13 September, 2007 - 21:10

i like this forum because when i meet people in the flesh (as it were, matron) we get to have witty conversations about having a libcom caucus at general assembly (you know who you are *cough!* nate *cough!*) or have fun dissing other libcommers out of their earshot wink grin

17 September, 2007 - 19:19

Yeah I like the combo of wobs and lib-commies. I think the signal-to-noise ratio would be better if we took this forum to an IWW only site, but I would miss the constructive comments and political criticism offered by non-wobs. I wouldn't miss the noise, though. Ftony, sorry we didn't get to hang out more at GA, but great to meet you.

asshole! you suck! etc.

21 September, 2007 - 02:30

I think that Gwen's comment captures it best so far. One thing I really appreciate about this forum that I don't think we'd get people who are friendly to but critical of the IWW to debate with. I like that because it expands the conversation in a way that an IWW only site wouldn't. I also like the mix of various degrees of left communism, anarchism, etc. one finds among the IWW folk on the site. Also very informative.

I would say that it'd be nice to try and have some sort of reading group come out of these discussions but I'd be lying if I said I had time right now to participate in one.

14 October, 2007 - 19:38

Sorry John, I should have said "by SOME non-wobs." I'd still be down for moving the libcom wob shit over to IWW.org cuz I find the the non-constructive comments and non-political criticism irritating as fuck. These days I haven't had time to really read these boards anyway though so I don't really feel too strongly about it.

15 October, 2007 - 00:50

I mean we could use both forums, it doesn't have to be A or B.

15 October, 2007 - 03:56

Hmm. True. When given two options, pick the third. Did Mao say that?

15 October, 2007 - 12:11

i believe so.

ncwob, i use both forums. i'll say hi on the wobbly ones...
