After watching two seasons of the wire...

Submitted by juozokas on 20 March, 2008 - 20:00.

pros:
mcnolty
stringer bell/avon
the nation of islam guy
omar
season one in general

cons:
they killed wallace
they killed d'angelo
season 1 was way better and season 2 took too long to get going

they killed wallace

that one really gutted me.

I watched the first half of season 2 again in dublin, and liked it a lot more than first time. Think i probably like it as much as season 1 - wish i'd had the time to watch it all.

20 March, 2008 - 21:53

It took a long time to not hate them for killing Wallace.

I've watched the first four seasons at least three times embarrassed

Was it just me or did Avon seem not all there, especially in season 1

20 March, 2008 - 22:03

I'm glad other people feel that way about Wallace

re; jef

When I think about it this show has too many subplots, and it's pretty ambitious but also frustrating cause it makes the good characters miss out on a lot of screen time, sometimes whole episodes

20 March, 2008 - 22:36

nas it doesn't have too many subplots - they're all pretty vital to the general story and complement each other
halfway through season 3 still (haven't really had a chance to sit down in a while)

wallace getting killed did suck, poor kid

by the way, i know for a fact there's people on season 1 - so edit title or OP to say SPOLIERS!!!

20 March, 2008 - 22:51

Well there's obviously going to be spoilers if he says he's watched the first two series unless his post was just 'It's really good'
smile

The great thing about The Wire is that it is a web of subplots connected to a major plot. McNulty is the closest thing to a star and even then they use him sparingly at times. It is frustrating that we don't see more of the good characters, I' still angry that they cut the final season from 13 to 10 episodes. Personally I could watch months of The Wire, but I keep telling myself, if there was more of it then it wouldn;t be as good.
That almost makes it ok smile

I'm halfway through season 3, but being severed from computer / internet in a couple days so gonna have to leave it hanging. Fuck.

21 March, 2008 - 00:08

It's a blessing in disguise. You don't want to rush it.

21 March, 2008 - 01:14

i dunno man, when i watched a series i'd do it in as few viewings as possible. once or twice i had like four or five episodes after another. christ.

it's just easier to appreciate as one big piece. and i get pissed off when episodes end when i want MORE.

21 March, 2008 - 01:15

also, season 2 was dope as shit FUCK WHAT YOU HEARD.

I watched 8 over the course of one day. grin

21 March, 2008 - 01:26

oh well if we're counting 24 hours as a day then i'd be worried as to how many i mighta watched. i count a day from when i wake up to when i sleep though innit.

still only got as far as season 3 though. gotta rewatch those shits before moving on i feel though, so i'm in for the long haul.

I know but then you watch a whole series in a day or two and you realise that there won't be any more for months, or for me now, ever sad

Amazing, McNulty in e7 s3

Can I get a Jameson's?
Bushmills do?
That's protestant whisky!

Legend

21 March, 2008 - 13:13

the cop in s3 who has the shaved head round the side is amazing
he looks like Alan Roberts out of Life of Agony circa 93-94!!
"i said I'm colder than ever, I'm empty, empty through and through"

21 March, 2008 - 19:49

I finished season 3, this was the best one imo

I'm assuming season four is going to be a turd

21 March, 2008 - 19:53

Season 4 is the best of the series.

Reckon it goes 4, 5, 3, 1, 2. But all of them amazing.

21 March, 2008 - 19:55
