as long as they get hammered by United on Sunday I don't care what Arsenal do.

Isn't it obvious we're deliberately trying to give that prick ferguson a tiny little taste of the title, making him let his guard down and lead his knuckle-dragging minions willingly and with heads held high into the abject slaughter they face at stamford bridge. So humiliating will be united's defeat the club will be forced to disband forever, making 29th april a national holiday for years to come- a day for celebrations worthy of thatcher's death. Elizabeth II will abdicate to John Terry, who will reinstate the british empire under a new, entirely blue, flag. Soon the whole world shall bow in submission to chelsea's greatness, and shall fall to their knees to give heartfelt thanks to the world's greatest football club for destroying the most utterly, utterly, utterly, utterly, utterly shite organisation in the history of sport.

it never ceases to amaze me how otherwise sensible libertarian communists can get all wet in the knickers at the thought of a bunch of overpaid primadonnas who will retire into the obscurity of the ruling class in their mid thirties.

Oldham for ever.

Don't really care who wins the league or if the ''emirates'' win in europe either this season. And as for the scottish league grin don't make me laugh, attendances are ridiculously low from what i've heard and the quality of football is pretty dire.

I've been watcing colchester do well this season, we had a 20 game unbeaten run though our form is hitting a low point right now, i still think we're well in line for the play offs at least. No doubt we'll get that big new stadium though, still its a million times better than most of the councils other projects and its only being built over a greenfeild site, so thats ok wink And it'll be good if ipswich, norwich, southend and colchester are all in the same division, though ticket prices would go up to silly amounts i guess. I admit i always try to be interested in football coz its a nice thing to follow the local team then i see it costs £15-20 even to see third division football and i really can't be asked. Still at least colchester are better than leyton orient who play such appalling and dull football you really feel you should be paid to see them.

yeah so terrible that we are gonna get promoted this season

roll eyes

when was the last time you even saw orient play? our trademark is attacking football

really? i just remember watching them a few years back and not enjoying a single game, it always seemed to end in a 1-0 loss to someone like rotheram or whatever and the last 15 minutes would be orient playing frustrated dirty football and stopping the game going anywhere.

Maybe they've improved, but i remain suspicious of that smile Afterall its a long trend to break, how long have they been in that division now, must be donkeys years. Promotion could do them a world of good i guess.

they have always had the annoying habit of playing well for 30 minutes and then after halftime, playing really badly (fuck knows what ling would say to them in those 15 minutes roll eyes), and usually losing. Over the last season or two our defence has finally come good (keep an eye on gabriel zakuani, our 19 year old centre back, who is getting interest from some championship and premiership clubc), and when the midfield is sharp (which is becoming much more consistent these days) we can beat most teams.

Oh yeah I know, it was your agreement with Knightrose's point about the banality of liking football and then bigging up Boro.

Any chance of a context for this one?

I'm not sure I was saying liking football is banal. I've bored the arse of loads of people about the wonders of Oldham Athletic for years. I just think it's strange the way most of you support top premiership teams. They are full of proto members of the ruling class. Ex-workers who have been bought off and set up in lives of luxury. If they were in any other industry, the only support you'd like to give them is at the end of a rope. But put them in a red shirt and yuor critical faculties go out the window.

aye cos Oldham Atheltic is full of Adulasian peasants?

Anyway we long ago gave up on such leninist notions of "labour aristocracy". tongue

Nah, Oldham are my local team. And they're not on £100,000 a week like some useless centre halves at the Red Scum who can't even turn up for a drugs test.

They're not labour aristocrats, they're fully fledged capitalists. But haven't we had this row before?

And I know Oldham are crap, just like Leyton Orient, Colchester and Rotherham.

When I started to watch Reading we were happy to get gates of 3,000 and had pretty much the most crap ground in the country (Elm Park, although Halifax and Wigan rivaled us). For most of the time I've supported them (and certainly my dad) they have been in the lower reaches of the league. A few long standing fans have mixed feelings about us going up - tickets are hard to get, prices are going to rocket, and we have gathered an extra 12,000 fans many of which don't understand why we chant 'we hate Swindon' (or Aldershot or Oxford). We have the odd experience of singing to our own newbie/plastic fans 'where were you when we were shit?'....the experience of supporting your team does change as they move up the league which is why I also follow my local non league team (top gate this season - 230!) and love rugby league a truly working class sport and most grounds still have trerraces!

as orient have done better this season, you do get the glory hunters coming out. dont really mind it at the home games, but when we beat fulham away in the fa cup and then drew charlton away, they really fucked things up. we beat fulham on the sunday, the draw was on the tuesday, so everyone thought they'd buy the charlton tickets at the home game on saturday. we arrived on saturday and the entire 4,500 ticket allocation had been sold, mostly over ticketmaster and other websites. everyone was really pissed off because any punter could buy those tickets, and it meant most of the season ticket holders didnt even have a chance at getting seats, including me angry

still if orient get too successful/expensive, then theres always leyton fc up the road, who play in the same league as afc wimbledon

Well no not really. I think you can trust "comrades" to enjoy society on an ironic/shallow level while still upholding a critique (of, er, footballers), no??

I've supported Arsenal since I was 6 years old (back in the George Graham days), but I wouldn't say I was much of a partisan supporter. The fact is though that right now they're playing some of the most attractive football in the world. It's entrancing.
