He's already said on here he likes Jamiroquai...
er... I'll try to think of something embarrassing. Generally though I'm quite happy with my cultural tastes, and assume that if someone else doesn't like them they're just wrong/stupid.
I'm a feminist.

I might be wrong on this, but didn't dubstep come out of grime?
You're kinda right though. That's how I feel about all this new rave/electroclash shit. It's just kitsch techno, except noone has the guts to really admit to liking it so they try to act all ironic about it. Postmodernism = something doesn't have to be good for you to like it. And the permanent inventing of new genres is often about hipsters attempting to assert their superiority. I can see the difference between dubstep and drum 'n' (you must be free)bass(ing to enjoy this shit), grime etc.
Rather embarassingly though, the Kode 9 song that made me realise that I actually quite dig this was in last night's Skins.
BTW Acid jazz is way worse. And Jack listens to Lily Allen so what the fuck does he know?

It's when you say stuff like this that you just show the fact you don't know what you're talking about. Firstly, "new rave" can fuck off, but the current new electro music is fucking great. It's not "kitsch techno" it's taking the complexity of decent indie/rock/punk and making it good to dance to. With a bunch of good hip hop thrown in.
And secondly, who doesn't have the guts to really admit liking it? If anything there are a lot of people who probably don't actually like it very much but who pretend to and hang about the "scene" because it's "cool."
Acid Jazz is worse than anything, I'll give you that.
is jamiroquai acid jazz? if so then it really is incredibly shit
I like acid techno!
But you all knew that already...
I think my taste in everything is better than everyone else's and that everyone else just isn't as good as me, but I can still acknowledge that some of the stuff I'm into isn't "cool"./
All that new electro ballicks is pure fuckin hipster shite. Seriously it's the type of stuff that everyone will look back on in 5yrs and say "jesus what a bunch of wankers". At least when I look back to being a teenage death metaller it's just funny, plus I still like some of the music. All the Nathan Barley reject music about now will just look pathetic in a few years, like not even fuunny.

Well you say that, but I bet you don't actually know what the music is like do you?
ok so some of the people look like wankers, but loads of people look like wankers.

Hipsters inventing new genres to assert superiority? Check.
And what "new electro" (what the fuck?) has to do with punk is beyond me. Do you put Green Day songs over drum machines or something? Hahahaha...
Amazing. I love you types. If it wasn't for Shoreditch I'd have to spend more time dissing punks. But hipsters are so much worse, it actually makes contemporary hardcore kinda passable. More seriously though, it illustrates just how fuckin culturally bereft our generation has been. All this rehashing of 80s kitsch is just so fuckin depressing. What a culture of nothingness.
However, back to the OP, I would have thought you'd be happy that I (believe it or not) was softening my line towards "hipster music" anyway. Who the fuck listens to dubstep if not Shoreditch types?
I do, it's the type of shit Revol has playin on his computer when I go round to his house and I have to tell him to turn it off before I throw his computer out the window. Is CSS that type of shite? Cos they're well fuckin shite.

I know, it's actually pretty smart of all the electroclash DJs to gather them in one place, when you think about it. It's tempting fate.
i'm not sure i know the difference between new rave and electro... i'm fairly sure i've been to indie-electro nights, and they were really weird. the music seemed really dire as club music (not saying its not terrible to listen to at home, if you like indie). yet everyone there was acting like it was the greatest. weird, is it pill music or something
its not the electro i don't like. its that its indie
rise of the fucking idiots
There's a new rave/electro/clash/wanker night at my uni. I once ended up there cos we were drinking in the union and then my (now girl)friend discovered some bad news so we kinda ended up staying there cos she was too shocked to really move. Right as she got the tragic phonecall, a shitty smoke machine started farting and releasing loads of smoke everywhere. Which was fortunate really, cos for 3 hours I couldn't see just how shit everyone looked. Noone at all was dancing, all the girls looked so unbelievably ugly. It was bad cos many of them are naturally pretty, but something about dying your hair black with blonde bits and wearing stripes and standing in a group of 15 girls giggling for 3 hours drinking Bacardi Breezers just isn't a turn on. Oh and all the guys were dressed as rabbits/chickens/Barleys as if it were Comic Relief or something. The DJ had two fringes and was wearing cock rock jeans and had an entourage of about 20 female hipsters crowded round his booth, all pretending to wanna sleep with him.
It was literally the worst thing I've ever seen. I actually almost dropped out of uni the following day in disgust.
Hipsters inventing new genres to assert superiority? Check.
Er, no Alan. Klaxons' PR people inventing a genre for the music press to go crazy over: check.
And what "new electro" (what the fuck?) has to do with punk is beyond me. Do you put Green Day songs over drum machines or something? Hahahaha...
"New" electro is to distinguish current electro music from the original "electro" in the 80s which was a kind of hip hop - see Kraftwerk, Afrika Bambaataa, etc, although there's still an obvious connection between them. That you don't see what it has to do with punk just shows you don't know what you're talking about. electroclash came out of mixing punk and electronic music.

Again, that's really funny cos what music are uber-trendy vice-reading hipster types into cos it's "cool"? hardcore.

hahaha please tell me this whining is a joke, right? This is balls on so many levels. If you want I could elaborate on how.
However, back to the OP, I would have thought you'd be happy that I (believe it or not) was softening my line towards "hipster music" anyway. Who the fuck listens to dubstep if not Shoreditch types?
I don't know dubstep, but unlike some people i'm not going to make a nob of myself trying to make it look as if I know about things I don't
I do, it's the type of shit Revol has playin on his computer when I go round to his house and I have to tell him to turn it off before I throw his computer out the window.
I doubt it, I didn't think revol was really into it.
Is CSS that type of shite? Cos they're well fuckin shite.
meh, sort of a tiny bit. they're good though. And you like jamiroquai and Thursday, so you not liking something is a good sign.

You're a fucking liar, bruv.

jesus what a lie; I fucking loathe Thursday. that's like me saying you like Travis, which you probably used to, and you'd like them if they had a shitty techno beat
Alan, I feel your pain, Revol dragged me to some shite night when Jack and Gav were over. Suicide did seem like an option.
Conor, that night was not new electro or electroclash or anything, it was a pretty mediocre indie night, bit of a difference.
Have a listen to this, and tell me what you think, then maybe we can discuss the same genre:
It was definitly an electro night. Which is the same as electroclash.

na Gav Jack's right it was definitely electro techno clash core vibe break.
To be honest the music bit wasn't important, i was more identifying with Alan in that it was utter shit and everyone looked and acted like ballroots
Apart from us. Especially when you started selling e's.
