Your phone calls tonight have been described tonight variously as ‘Rabid’, ‘Pig Ignorant’ and ‘stultifyingly ill-informed'. Thanks for those.

That's decadence.

i had a working definition of decadence at one stage of my life i worked very hard on implimenting. it involved vodka at dawn in a stolen crystal goblet and sloppy oral sex.

30 May, 2007 - 11:49

I had much the same definition of life at one stage during my decadence.

30 May, 2007 - 11:50

That's not decadence, that's drunk oral sex. Decadence would involve all of the above but being very bored while you're doing it and sighing a lot, possibly whilst muttering the word 'ennui'.

30 May, 2007 - 11:55

See, I can never quite manage to be bored during oral sex. Perhaps with a bit more practice, though. smile

30 May, 2007 - 12:03

Bordom is optional. The stolen crystal goblet made it decadence.
And here i thought this thread was going to discuss left communist theory!

30 May, 2007 - 12:23

My masterplan was to have a thread about decadence that wasn't the same old shite.

30 May, 2007 - 12:30

good idea, gotta keep decadence fresh, new and exciting otherwise it'd probably just peter out

30 May, 2007 - 12:58

If you can't have vodka, crystal goblets and oral sex, it ain't communism!

30 May, 2007 - 13:00

Anyone who disagrees with that is clearly a primmo or a hairshirt.

Decadence is at the heart of Marxism.

Did you tire of it?

30 May, 2007 - 14:45

just out grew. tho not sure what you mean surprised

and isn't hemingway decadent. i say, i read some of that when i was an adolescent and never wanted to read again.

30 May, 2007 - 14:55

it's just filth innit. litterary filth. not in a good way.

tho i guess it's bearable in small doses, i can't think of anything good about it.

30 May, 2007 - 14:57

lem: stop doing multiple posts in a row, you've been told about this. If you want to add something to a previous post to which no one has responded go back and edit it. Please also stop making off-topic posts elsewhere on the boards.

30 May, 2007 - 14:57

it's not even as if you can read it just to feel disgusted with yourself. and if you can, why not just read something you don't like confused

eta: jeepers John.. afaicr, i was never told by an admin. don't you have more pressing things to do tongue

eta2: yeah just read a trashy novel, like "holiday books". no difference.

eta3: so what counts as off topic? the post on open marxism? any of the posts on the crazy thread?

please provide 3 quotes, preferabley a very off topic, followed by a slight, and then middling off topic post. i am here to learn tongue

30 May, 2007 - 15:27

oh and teh button: there is nothinng decadent in going to turboisland. tho copying it if it's not in your heart, that would do it!

Eta: sorry John. But how do you suggest i get teh button to pay attention?

eta2: i mean i enjoy leaving slightly off topic posts, but would change for either a friend or admin.

however doing so for the incarnation of both involves an abuse of the freedom of a civil sphere. something like that grin

beside which turboisland is a reaction against decadence tongue

30 May, 2007 - 15:37

I can't see what Turbo Island has to do with this thread, tbh. Ah well.

(Turbo Island, for the benefit of other readers, is a small message board I used to post on occasionally).

30 May, 2007 - 15:45

sorry teh button. i thought that posting there might be your decadent phase. i forget that this place is huge sometimes.
