Well one of our BJJ instructors is a GP and also does fight doc at mma, bjj and thai fights - he was pissed about this bullshit.
And this week a proposed event for the end of Sept in Belfast has just been banned after a list of rediculous excuses was given; one being that the fight website used a DMX song with the word "nigger" in it!!!!

A bloke I used to do kung-fu with went to Cambridge to do a neuroscience PhD and joined the boxing team there. He won 2 from 2 fights before his supervisors convinced him it wasn't such a good idea so then he became a coach, which could be seen as a little hypocritical.

What's bjj? I've seen a wee bit of mma, in fact a lass I used to know used to be an mma fighter, but I've never heard of bjj.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. cant tell you anything about the specifics the art, though.

Isn't MMA much better than boxing healthwise? I mean in boxing you're just taking punch after punch to the head, but in MMA the love is spread all over the body. Well, at least this is the argument UFC is using.

And as for the safety thing, yeah you pretty much summed it up. Some fights can end with pretty much no strikes being thrown!

Good luck with the fight.

And Peter, a lot of top class wrestlers go into MMA after dominating the wrestling circuits. And there they can struggle if they don't pick up enough striking and BJJ.

Yeah plus you can get paid shitloads more to do mma - that's why lots of top college wrestlers in the US go into mma.

Na some dude I do BJJ with was curious about anarchism when we were chatting about Monson - he said he already thought he'd been drifting to the left and was gonna read a bit of Kropotkin. I think he was just glad anarchists weren't all punks or hippies.
