Dublin bookfair

Submitted by jef costello on 16 December, 2007 - 23:57.

I can't find the thread where someone said they'd put me up and I have no idea when this is but I've got a little bit of cash right now so I'd like to book a cheap flight as soon as possible.

I might get the chance to sing the orange version of the wearing of the green that I thought up on the train before the last bookfair smile

ps WSM I won't be absolutely skint like last time wink

Hi Jef,

its on from the 14th to the 16th. The 14th (friday night) will prob just be a social and the 16th might be just hanging out, I'm not on the organising group so I'm not sure exactly whats planned yet. (The Mondays a bank holiday here so Sunday could well involve some drinking...). Still, if you have the time it should be good fun for the weekend.

If anyone else wants to be put up you can pm me. I'll comment on this thread when we don't have any room left.

for people who don't fancy staying with WSM members and friends, or who are too late to get floorspace here's a c&p from the 2006 bookfair blogspot:

The cheapest option is to stay in a youth hostels and there are many in the city. The two below are both in the city centre and within walking distance of the Bookfair venue [the bookfair is being held in the Liberties, in the south inner city, about 5-10 minutes walk from Christchurch cathedral)

http://www.avalon-house.ie/ (dorms from 15 euro, 4 person and single rooms available)
http://www.kinlayhouse.ie/ (dorms from 19 euros, 4 person and single rooms available)

Hotels cost more.

The Jurys Inn at Christchurch (not the other one) costs 89 euro a room a night, but rooms sleep three. It is about 5-10 minutes walk from the venue.

Dublin is full of hotels and hostels, but rooms can go quickly. More information at the Irish Tourist Board website http://www.ireland.ie/accomodation.asp

Which month is it? March?
I might have time off then, normally I work until 5 on fridays, of course I could just cancel lessons smile
I don't work mondays so I could stay for Sunday. I like drinking smile

17 December, 2007 - 23:17

I think I'll be coming - seem to remember Sovietpop promising to put me up!

17 December, 2007 - 23:31

Yeah March. And both of you should come over. Everyone will call you Jef and Thora though. And nobody will be calling me George.

17 December, 2007 - 23:34

i'm still wsm number 1 choice.

17 December, 2007 - 23:35

Organise! will be going down without informing anyone and will have a sneaky internal meeting without even meeting any of our comrades from the wsm for a pint. Except we won't, cos we aren't like that wink

18 December, 2007 - 11:00

what, like the time (last Saturday) when people from the wsm went to Belfast to meet some contacts, arranged to meet someone from Organise! while up there and had a few pints with them?

Real sneaky.

18 December, 2007 - 11:19

Yes almost exactly like that. There is a difference between contacting that "someone" in a personal capacity, ie as "a contact" (which is what happened) and contacting Organise! - you want to pm me about it feel free.

I kept getting introduced to people as Thora at the London bookfair - even by someone who knew me by my real name first.

Oh come on the rest of us had no clue. Given at least 3 of Organise post on here every single dayif you'd wanted to hang out with us I'm sure you'd have said. as it were we'd no clue.

Dublin bookfair - aye I'll be going.

18 December, 2007 - 13:30

I'm the WSM's official hanging out with Organise! delegate. Who went up without my permission?

18 December, 2007 - 13:35

Exactly, you're the one we trust!

18 December, 2007 - 13:36

Is there a position paper on hanging about with Organise!?

18 December, 2007 - 13:46

Yeah I think it says
"Organise! are bad boys and swear too much"

18 December, 2007 - 13:49

Too concise.

18 December, 2007 - 13:52

There actually is a section in one of our position papers on organise. I'll dig it up in a minute if you'd like. It's in our 'relationships with other left groups' paper.

18 December, 2007 - 13:56

I hate that position paper. Its coz of that paper that I've been banned from rolling my eyes at meetings!

hmmm, so we can't set foot in the city without contacting everyone in Organise? Jaysus... Oh, and when speaking to the member of Organise! (in his capacity as a member of Organise!) one of the things we wanted to do was let ye know what we were up to - not that its strictly necessary but more so that it wouldn't rub anyone up the wrong way or cause any problems. That might not have worked out eh?

I'll probably be heading back up in the New Year, sure if you're all so keen I can stay up and go drinking with ye then. Its the sneaky accusation that annoys me.

Boul - tried to phone you, says yer number is temporarilaly out of contact or something. Sure give me a bell if this is an issue for you.

18 December, 2007 - 14:14

It's just a bit weird is all. yeah if you were trying to let us know what you were up to I guess it didn't happen cos only one person knew, and didn't tell anyone.

18 December, 2007 - 14:17

to be fair it's hardly the WSM's fault if bobby's acting the lil bitch. wink

18 December, 2007 - 14:28

It's just a bit weird not mentioning it on here or in say, the Ireland forum, where you know some of us might actually find out.

18 December, 2007 - 14:33

Does Organise! always act like a needy ex-girlfriend?

18 December, 2007 - 15:10

Or, if as I've been told they wanted to let us know to avoid appearing 'sneaky' perhaps using our organisations email address to give us a shout would have worked. No-one's demanded that you inform every individual in Organise! but letting on Organise! were contacted and someone was spoken to on behalf of Organise! when thats not the case is my issue with this.

That and youse taking a huff and deciding not to contact me cos I said some stuff on here youse didn't like about platformism - a deliberate lets not tell him lets tell Bobby instead roll eyes

18 December, 2007 - 16:14

Does no one else find the ! at the end of Organise! a tad embarassing? Especially when it appears several times in a sentence like

"No-one's demanded that you inform every individual in Organise! but letting on Organise! were contacted and someone was spoken to on behalf of Organise! when thats not the case is my issue with this."

18 December, 2007 - 16:23

They should change it to a question mark. cool
