stretching is obviously gay and for losers, how long do i need to be exercising for until not doing this won't cripple me and make me walk like a mental?

7 February, 2008 - 10:47

Depends what you're doing? I'd rarely do any stretching but I only lift weights and do bodyweight exercises. I find warming up properly is enough.

Conor will be better able to help I'd reckon.

i thought we'd established all exercising is gay anyway? depending on what you're doing you should stretch before (but after a brief warm up) and after your warm-down (which apparently helps recovery)

7 February, 2008 - 11:27

i've been running home from work (2 miles) once or twice a week and playing squash and table tennis.

This week, whenever i walk more than 15 minutes, my calves start really hurting, and i start walking like someone who should be locked up.

7 February, 2008 - 11:28

wot GDID said. stretching (rather than warming up) is only really applicable if you're doing exercise that would need it. however, it's often useful to gently stretch after exercise because it can reduce the muscle aching you'll feel the following day.

7 February, 2008 - 11:29

squash DEFINITELY requires stretching. sorry to break it to you jack.

Could be doms? Not a bad thing, just your muscles growing.

Have you been under a rock? Me and conor staged a coup.

7 February, 2008 - 11:30

in squash you're putting a lot of strain on your ankles, knees and hips. also it'll hit your shoulders and back hard.

Yea, i know they say that, but not being a retard, i'm not going to do it, and want to know how long until my body works properly and i don't have to.

no, in the gym. training every day at the moment but didn't want to come out wink

my calves don't ache when i run now, can't remember when they stopped though. a bit of light stretching afterwards will help recovery though, and therefore allow you to do it more without walking like a retard, and therefore get to the point where it doesn't ache any more quicker. probably.

Props to Joseph K!

Speaking of stretching, yesterday a gym-bunny came into the weights room and started doing the splits in front of the cable pull down machine. Everybody stopped lifting.

7 February, 2008 - 13:10

A few things

JoeK - don't be afraid, we're here for you
Jack - good you're running, fairplay
Table tennis is what you play in caravan parks when it's raining - NOT SPORT
Squash is a game for estate agents and people who don't like sport and insurance salespeople

Stretch for fuck sake! You don't have to do big gay stretches like me and like the others said a light warmup is more important than a stretch. So always start slowly with a light warm up, just enough to make you feel warm/sweat very lightly, and then a light stretch - you don't have to look like a gymnast, but stretch the parts you'll be hitting hardest. In squash you'd probably need a light quad, calf and hamstring stretch.

Anyway there's nothing wrong with gaining a bit of flexibility. Plus you'll avoid DOMS like they said. Serious, just stretch there's nothing wrong with it, no one's looking. Except if you're a girl and gdid is there.

7 February, 2008 - 13:20

Jack, in addition to that get the following products; whey protein, corn sugar, creatine

You'll be hooooooooge. xxxxx will never touch you again.

7 February, 2008 - 13:28

i'm not fucking stretching. Exercise is bad enough, but that's a step too far.

Conor, i hate sport, hence the table tennis and squash. I am so unbelievably bad at squash, it's amazing. I started playing because they play in the wire.

Gdid, we got a punchbag in our house, also directly as a result of the wire. Next, i'm going to rob local drug gangs. That will be amazing. My wrists really hurt from last night tho (add wanking joke). If i eat lots of meat surely i don't need extra protein? Stopping being veggie has put me on the de facto atkins diet.

Depends on your level of exercise and what types of meat.Protein supplements will help you build that lean mass. Allegedly.

7 February, 2008 - 13:43

He's not lifting, he doesn't need to supplement unless he's playing 6 times a week really mad.

7 February, 2008 - 13:48

I just wanted to get a table tennis player on the creatine.

7 February, 2008 - 13:54

That would have been fantastic.

7 February, 2008 - 14:02

for you guys, i shall indulge.

What is creatine, how funny will the results be, and how much will i need to exercise not to put on the protein as fat?

7 February, 2008 - 14:04

It will fuck up your kidneys probably.

7 February, 2008 - 14:08

that doesn't answer my questions, peckerwood.

It would mostly be water retention at first, if you 'load' it at least. Results not funny but it might make a man out of you.

Jack wrote:

You wont put protein on as fat at all, if you exercise even just two days a week (weights) and keep a low fat diet. You need carbs to get the protein to your muscles though.

Myth, no? Taking it with citric acid based juice create creatinine which could potentially fuck up your kidneys but only as much as any other product you have to piss out a lot.

7 February, 2008 - 14:16

i got lost after the word water. If i do weights, how long would it take me to be the most ripped in my house?

7 February, 2008 - 14:20

In your house, 4 weeks?

7 February, 2008 - 14:23

doing how much? In time terms per week like?

7 February, 2008 - 14:23

Depends how fat you are.

Oh and you'll probably get ketosis-breath - I mean if you stick to your de-facto atkins thing

7 February, 2008 - 14:25

you know how fat i am- fatter than mara, thinner than revol.

I'm going to get ripped so i can just sit around in no shirt and annoy everyone else.

Jack wrote:

Depends how much you want to do. With a two day split and a day of cardio you can get results. With a 5 day split you might not get much more.

You'll need to bulk up then cut though, although I'm not great on the science of this. Essentially you can't lose weight and gain muscle at the same time, but you can.

7 February, 2008 - 14:41

can you explain that as you would a child?
