You're going to 'claim' them are you. Jesus people don't know what being a football fan is any more. Oh and while I'm on the subject the northern irish i can just about accept have some extenuating circumstances if, as they claim, supporting your local team amounts to buying into some kind of sectarianism (not convinced however). Bob though you'd better have some reason for supporting man u other than the fact that they are the richest club in the world and always win otherwise i will be forced to denounce you

I'm so proley that my club's in administration cool

I would add that there's not nearly enough football chat on libcom, and what there is is just revol and conor taking the piss out of refused and jef over and over because 'their' team has won yet again. if we want to attract the authentic white working class male we're going to have to up our game on this one people

I would also add that Jack has always supported Sunderland, yet wore a Newcastle top as a teenager 'because everyone did'. There's something profoundly wrong about that that I simply cannot put into words

You can't blame the poor lad for not wanting people to think he's scum. On the other hand, the lad is scum and deserves to die.

no i' meant i'm claiming to be a real Larne fan despite the fact I never go to there games since I was 12 or 13, though i'll go on Saturday to see them play Mara's scum.

I do think it out of order when English folk choose to support teams miles away when they have closer teams playing at the same if not similar standard, I can't be said to follow Larne anymore but if i was going to follow irish league I couldn't just dump them in favour of some cunts like Linfield.

btw irish league level football is sub Conference level, hence staying in the heat and watching English teams is much more popular.

I supported Bristol City when I was younger and it's not like I wanna go about admitting that (especially as i live on the Rovers side of town, uh-oh!). The last football game I went to was a Rovers game infact.

Near the start of the season, City were top of the league. It was during St Pauls Carnival and I was drunk and high and therefore in a vulnerable place to make a five pound bet with even odds with my mate that they'd go up next season. I was regretting that bet for a while. But, man. it's not looking like such a bad move now though.

but yeah, why do I support a Premier League team? 'cos I've not got the money to go and see a Championship or Division One team every week, whereas Match of the Day is free (or going to a pub to watch a game. comes out a lot cheaper with buying a round. or going to my friend's house who has sentanta). Is there even coverage of the Championship on tv? 'cos i've not seen it. And Man United because they play the exciting attacking football that I like to watch.

i also like the fact they're the richest club in the world.

wait, what age are you?

I started supporting United in about 1987 cos my dad whinged on about them robbing Everton of a treble (of sorts) and my glory hunting big bro who knew and still knows nothing about football supported Liverpool.

21 next month.

I supported United when I first got into football. All them there years ago. I guess they were doing well at the time though so I am a gloryhunter. The earliest I can remember liking them was the first Premier League season. Then I went through a time of liking Liverpool as well as Man Utd (don't ask me why). Then stopped watching football for a while, until a few years ago. Just approached it with no gay loyalties in mind and just started watching it without supporting anyone and found myself supporting United (it was probably my hatred of arsenal and chelsea that drove me to this though).

and that's my gloryhunting story for you

so basically Bob rupert murdoch told you to support man u so that he could make more money

meh i don't see how you could go changing your team, picking a new one and all that, i just couldn't do it would feel so false and weird, and how could you ever feel like it was 'your' team, or really feel part of what they were doing. there's nothing to stop you watching top quality football without supporting the teams involved, but yes there is an hour long roundup of the championship & leagues one and two on sunday mornings around 9.50 on ITV. sky show the odd game too.

the reason football in this country is becoming shit is that all the money from tv is going to the already richest clubs and noone else stands a chance, especially as the local 'fans' of the smaller clubs desert them to become hangers on of the top four and even the proper fans of those top clubs are being priced out of stadiums by the prawn sandwich brigade

easy to play exciting football when you can buy whoever you want. i give your reasons slightly more credibility than my gf's sister's boyfriend who supports liverpool because 'i've always liked the colour red'. only a little though

btw i sound really derisive and insulting, but i don't actually hate you in general when other issues are taken into consideration wink

Man Utd have had a reputation for playing fast exciting attacking football since the 50's you prick! Thye've always played with such an ethos! Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo stand in line to Charlton, Law and Best. Man Utd like Barcelona are a team that are recognised as having a certain style, of a commitment to entertain.

Also your point about tv money is only relevant to teams outside the premiership all 22 teams in the top flight share the TV money equally.

The main thing is that I'd never given enough of a fuck when I was younger. I'd go to watch City games every now and then (when they were cheap and when i myself didn't have to pay. child's ticket too, even CHEAPER!) and would watch it on tv but didn't care either way. Wasn't even particularly into football to be honest. Just really got back into it these past few years. I'd like to go to more local games, but I really just can't afford it at the moment. maybe some other time.

but I'm not too worried about patriotic-esque support of 'my' team either. or liking a team 'cos they're from my area. just doesn't matter enough to me, i guess. i just like to watch football and United are my favourite team when i sit down and watch it. i don't get much further than that with it.

oh, and your words cut like knives by the way. so stop it.

oh and if any english wakers want to get all parochial and indignant about paddies supporting EPL teams they can suck my balls, irish players have long been good enough to make up English teams.

right first thing, i support the mighty heart of midlothian f.c. if you want to see championship football sky has them on every saturday evening and the odd monday game. i can understand people supporting man.utd as they are a massive club and full of superstars playing great footie i have no problem with that. saw a couple of the northern irish games on sky as well the linfield fans are bigger fuckwits than rangers fans!! i didnt think that was possible grin

if you have the best players in the world of course it will be exciting to watch, man u had the best players in the world in the 60s and they still do. and the top four get shitloads of money from the champions league, which is why the top four is the same every year, how tedious

Roy Keane, ex manchester united psychopath and now manager of sunderland, said man u was being ruined by higher ticket prices and more corporate seats attracting rich 'fans' to watch the them who didn't care about the team and never made any noise at games because they were too busy stuffing their faces with prawn sandwiches. it is an image that sums up what is happening in english football very well
