Revol Fuller yesterday - "lol no-one really believes in creationism"
For Dee as well as Conor ;) - TV Times - 16 - 22 August 2008
Yet again i sadly missed the charms of the religious nutjob programming, instead helping devise a new phonetic alphabet with my mates. Marmite got in, just ahead of mason, though I still have my reservations about ku klux klan. Takes too long to say.
Did anyone else see it? was it as pointless as a papal penis?
(and btw xconorx, have you avoided the flooding?)

Belfast floods

Like, how exactly does a car get submerged?
"Oh, looks like a big puddle up ahead"
'yeah this rain sure is heavy'
"there's no other cars about"
'yeah and that wall over there appears to disappear under the water'
"yeah and the tops of those traffic cones are poking out, but the rest disappear"
'and that underpass is completely filled with water up ahead'
"ah sure, we'll take our chances"

Yes i saw it. it is a seriously entertaining series..imho anyways..
Here are some highlights from yesterday's ep.
A Christian virgin visits lusty lapdancer Fay and her bf in an attempt to prevent them from fornication via providing them with teh alternative of the game of pick-up-sticks! So similar.
The volunteers on the retreat are banned from bringing food and on arrival are made to forage for weeds and stuff to make a nettle soup. In the cold, wet and damp - good incentive.
One member has broken the rule and bought along a carrier bag of sandwiches which are duly broken up and shared within the group to the consternation of the leaders. They crack down hard on what is the most "Christian" act of the retreat - carried out by the atheists, Muslims and co and disapproved of by the Christians.
Amazing stuff

Right, apology time for LW
I did sit down with me tea to watch the last in the series- i put a post it note on my 'puter and the TV to remind me and to politely ask my housemate not to try and claim living room lebensraum.
Unfortunately, the satellite dish is fucked, and I kept losing the signal. I can tell you that the group had to go and clean up a church (one character commenting that it was better than bible studies) and the biker went in, but got bored after a while I think. I also saw a vicar going off to discuss religion with someone's mum (who ran a pub), and the shots in the pub seemed to involve a Jade Goody lookalike looking doubtful.
I can't tell you anymore than that I'm afraid. i'm really sorry hon
- someone else may have watched it tho.
Hey Dee
Aww how lovely of you to be so thoughtful and attempt to watch this prog on my behalf under such challenging conditions.
Fortuitously, the programme is being repeated tomorrow night/Mon am at 4.20 am so i should be able to catch it then. I will have to put up with the sign language person prolly but i will take that.
It is worth you catching the series next time it is on. Trust me, you will be entertained. heh

Hey guys
Make the most of this week's Guide - i am away for a week from Wed on so there is not likely to be one for next week only.
This week's pick is Richard Dawkins attempt to convince religious opponents of the fact of evolution and his like attempt to persuade science teachers to be unafraid to teach what they know to be true.
In a week of varied political programming, other topics explored include the NHS "postcode lottery", Solzhenitsyn's exile from Russia and return and why so many people die alone.
Sunday 17 August - 7 - 8.00pm - Channel 4 - Make Me A Christian - 2/3
In this second edition a committed virgin is introduced to the group, in a bid to encourage them to refrain from "fornication" outside marriage. The volunteers also take part in an outdoor retreat in which poor weather conditions increase tensions within the group.
Pick of the Week
Monday 18 August - 8 - 9pm - Channel 4 - The Genius of Charles Darwin - 3/3
In this final instalment, Dawkins tackles head-on the schism between religious and scientific "theories" of evolution and creation. Unsurprisingly he makes no headway with creationist opponents; John Mackay, for example produces the staggering soundbite: "You don't die because you get old; you die because you're a sinner." Archbishop of Canterbury Dr. Rowan Williams, however, proves a more challenging yet more convivial opponent. Dawkins also politely but furiously challenges a group of science teachers who are reluctant to assert the primacy of their views in case they are charged with religious discrimination or, worse, considered to be in receipt of views which, however indirectly, are held to be promulgating racist tensions.
Monday 18 August - 8.30 - 9pm - BBC1 - Panorama - The NHS Postcode Lottery: It Could Be You
This week the team take a timely look at discrepancies within the UK for the allocation of NHS medical treatment.
Monday 18 August - BBC2 - 11.20pm - 12.55am
The Homecoming - Alexander Solzhenitsyn's Return to Russia
In a tribute to the author whose recent passing has led to some heated debate on this site, BBC2 is repeating this documentary made to chronicle his two-month train journey made across Russia as he returned to his homeland following 20 years of exile in the US for promulgating political views critical of the old communist regime.
Wednesday 20 August - BBC2 - 9 - 10pm - House of Saddam - 4/4
The final part of the story commences in 2003; as Western coalition forces invade Iraq, Saddam goes on the run with three bodyguards. Other family members seek refuge in Baghdad but disloyalty leads to their discovery. The series ends as it begins before the flashbacks commence, with George Bush announcing to the Iraqi people that their ruling tyrant has been driven out and that (ironically) "there will be no more torture chambers" in their country.
Friday 22 August - Channel 4 - 7.35 - 8pm - Watch Me Disappear
Shown as part of the "Generation Next" strand in this directorial debut of Lucy Cohen, "First Cut" here presents a poignant yet understated exploration of how some 200 people a month die yet not one mourner attends their funeral. There are no easy answers provided as to why so many people die alone in modern society but the portrayal of this is well-executed.
